Walking is actually a rather poor form of exercise considering the calories burnt against the time taken. Our bodies soon adapt to any kind of exercise routine so you really need to mix it up to keep making gains in fitness, and we kind of walk every day so you stop getting any real value from walking real quick.
At your weight of 218lbs you would burn the following
Walking @ 3mph 430 calories per hour
Stationary bike at moderate pace 1,200
Step aerobics - low impact 693
Jogging 700
Aerobics - low impact 600
Rowing machine - moderate 700
Elliptical trainer 1,125
Running @ 5 mph 837
Rope jumping 994
Zumba moderate level 780
I would do alternate days with some kind of aerobic exercise from this list or maybe some kind of class like zumba etc, on one day with resistance training the next.
Get a personal trainer to write you a program preferably one who has worked with WLS post ops. If the cost is an issue then join a local gym that will give you an induction, and get them to write you one.
