Hmmm. I think all i could do was walk and use those bands. I bought some bands from walmart. Kind of like big rubber bands with handles on them. Its good to do so your arms dont get flabby LOL! thats about it. I am 5/6 weeks out and just got cleared for real exercise so you could imagine how board i was with walking around the block....little by little you'll get there. |

I agree with Kenyar walking is all that is approved initially because you are still healing internally!

I will be 7 weeks post op this coming Wednesday. I was told I could exercise when I thought it felt good to me. My surgeon said just low easy things. Like walking and riding a bike. I probably started walking about 10 days or 2 weeks out. At first it was just little walks around the block or just down the road a bit. Then slowly I increased it to about a mile and a 1/2. Ive been walking my mile and 1/2 every day since then and today I just increased it and added another maybe 1/2 mile to it. But it does take time.
Slowly you get your energy back and feel better to do more. Just take it slow and your body will tell you when your ready. Also to make sure to see what your doctor reccommends. Everyones doc is different.

FOR me my surgeon rules were to walk the first three months then i was cleared to return to my gym.
I think every surgeon is different.....
and i would phone yours and take his advise.
I know we heal for a long time internally and you
dont want to end up with a hernia
all the best

With gastri bypass, it takes about 3 months to heal completely.
Ask your surgeon for what kind of exercise and how much to do.
Every surgeon has a different program, so you must keep to your own surgeon's program, after all he/she is the person who operated on you, and knows what your innards are like, now.
At your stage, walking is the safest exercise for you, you are not yet one month out. Anything else, get clearance from your surgeon. Since it it getting warmer, if you like to swim, ask your surgeon when you can start swimming.
DO NOT do any exercise that involves weights until you get your surgeon's clearance. This goes for lifting heavy things in daily life as well, if for any reason you have to lift heavy things regularly in your daily life, ask your surgeon if it's okay to do so.
(((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

When I went for my 1 week check-up he released me to normal activity. I was a little shocked. I said, so I can work out? And he said yes. But I just don't feel comfortable with that. It's so funny. Compared to other Dr.'s, he's a little more strict with the foods I can eat at the different weeks. But with exercise, he's alot LESS strict. I just don't understand how all the Dr.'s can be so different. I can understand the "everyone is different" such as having different health issues, but I'm finding it has nothing really to do with that, it's just your Dr.'s opinions.

Before or after your doctor clears you, trying drinking plenty fluid (water) and walking. Find surfaces that will have you go up some slight uphills and downhills and flat surface as well. Starting easy will get you in a frame of mind that you can do it. That's an important goal to have slow, easy and in control.

I would definitely take it VERY slow. Walking is excellent for this stage. Not to keen on the whole bike riding thing this early but hey, each dr does a different program. Just keep in mind that if you over do it you could cause hernia and you SO dont want that. good luck

Also another important point everyone, there isn't an exercise in the world that doesn't incorporate your core muscles (stomach and lower back). So we all know we need to start off slow, easy and be in control to avoid, strains, sprains and pulls.
