Default Bowflex for cardio workout

My husband and I purchased a Bowflex right before I had my surgery because we figured it would be cheaper to buy one of those than for both of us to join a gym! (Plus we wouldn't have to deal with the gym "social clubs" that look down on obese people!) I have been walking some and riding my recumbent bike but now want to start adding a cardio workout. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good "starter" cardio workout program that I can use my Bowflex for?

Thanks!

Karen

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

im confused. i thought the bowflex was a home gym type thingy you know like resistance and toning? if it is, this will build muscle as opposed to cardio which will help you lose weight. cardio is like walking, jogging, kick boxing...things to get your heart rate up. am i thinking of the wrong machine?

I have no idea but I have always wanted a Bowflex. I simply do not have room or I would get one. I have seen what they can do for people. Its as amazing as this surgery. One fella and one lady. They both look great.

yeah, i think its to build strength. theres nothing wrong with it. i just dont think its considered cardio. i could TOTALLY be wrong, afterall i am just as new to exercise and the rest of us. i just thought cardio was for example jumping up and down, whereas liftng weights is considered strength. either way go for it! it cant hurt...

bowflex, unless it's one of the new treadmill type ones is gonna be a modified type of weight training with resistance instead of weights type of workout.

what you CAN do however if you've been walking is start using small (1-1.5lb) handweights which you can get all WalMart for, gosh like 96cents or 1.50. do power walking with the weights for 20 min or more..THAT would be cardio.

Plus another GREAT one is with your recumbant bike...I love those! If you watch TV during your time, during the commercials use that time to do a faster speed and then get to a regular speed while you are watching the show. (Gold's was great since each machine had a tv on there & you could watch movies too)

right now you can start pushing a LITTLE bit with what you've been doing. cardio you can do up to 6 times a week but the weight/resistance stuff needs to be every THIRD day...

I know everyone will go...no no no..every OTHER day .... BUT after surgery we do not repair as quickly...you get better results and your body does better if you do weights every THIRD day.

I worked with a personal trainer while training to take the Fire Dept. Physical Assessment Test and we found this out really quickly. I got horribly sore and tired and didn't see any build at all..but when he started researching more about the WLS he realized that our bodies don't repair the small tears/breakdowns in muscle like regular people. So, we changed to a 3 day break and voila! within 3 weeks time we saw a huge change!
