Default Exercise Questions / Update

Hello everyone!

Quick update - I am now officially down 55# and have lost 26"

I have been walking - A LOT - and my question is: Now that I walk a solid 45 - 60 mins at a time and up to 1 1/2 hrs if I walk during the day - How do I maximize my efforts? When I walk at work I cant really get all hot and sweaty so it's a fluff workout - basically just to get the blood flowing and get me off my bum! At night - I really work it. I recently started doing an up down pattern at a nearby retention pond zig zagging up and down 4-5 times to vary my routine a bit. there are some mild inclines naturally. Obviously in one hand I have my water bottle - so Im wondering about some sort of exercise to work my upper body while I walk. any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, this morning I walked but had a really different experience - I only walked about 50 mins but it really kicked my butt! I drank so much more than usual and didnt have nearly the energy I usually do. Partly, I think may have been the heat - although there was a wonderful breeze. Did I get a good workout? better than usual? or was it not as good for me as the usual? You know I've never really found my calling in life - maybe I should go back to school and study exercise physiology......

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

the thing is, and i dont know if this will make sense but let me try....
for me, i dont sweat like i used to. in fact i have been cold ever since the surgery. so i dont use that as a good gauge on how "hard" i worked out. I dont know if that makes sense at all...LOL!
i think if you are moving, and you werent before, any amount is a "good" amount. I have no clue how long one should move and what the heart rate shoul;d be etc. i just feel like i moved twice a day for at least 30 minutes...and that two times more than i did pre-op, so it's gotta be doing something

if anyone knows the actual answers to your question, i would be interested to read and try whatever they say, as i am LOST with the exercise world. i might join a gym just so someone who has a clue can tell me what to do and for how long

I'm not really brave enough for a camera yet // I wish I could afford a personal trainer - maybe that's what I should ask for for Christmas from my parents - even just I session to set me on the right track! I went for a freebie at curves for 3 weeks and they have you check your heart rate - for my max fat burning workout I need to maintain 21 beats per 10 seconds for a 40-45 year old that is 5'5". That's a real challenge. I usually hit around 18 and can hold it there. I just felt like in the past when I exercise I dont accomplish what I think I should - this may just be a problem with my perception but, again, if we're gonna do this I say lets make the most of it

i was joking about the pics LOL. in time you wont STOP taking pics LOL. wait til you get comfy with it
yes trainers are expensive, but they have this discount because the gym i am looking into is on the same property where i work. so because i am employed on the property, i get a cheaper rate than someone off the street. even if i only start of with ONE session, its some direction because i am LOST. i have absolutely no clue how to tone, what exercises to do, how to burn fat etc. i too started out walking. and graduated to an elliptical machine. i do workout to dvds just to switch it up a bit but thats about it. no clue what im doing LOL!

I Was Doing The Walking Thing But Found It Just Wasnt Enough After A While Especially For Other Parts Of My Body So I Joined The Gym And Part Of The Member Ship Was To Have A Free Personal Trainer For 2 Days. Which Was Great She Showed Me Alot. It Ended Up The Personal Trainer Is My Neighbor And She Said If I Want To Use Her In The Future She Will Give Me A Big Discount. I Watch Her Train Others At The Gym And What I Like About A Personal Trainer Is They Will Not Only Show You The Right Things To Do But They Really Push You When You Want To Give Up. They Really Push!!! I Find For Me The Gym Inspires Me More Because I Have A Treadmill At Home And Its Easy For My To Find Any Excuse Not To Work Out Or If I Go Walking I Will Find Its To Hot Out And Not Do It So I Needed Somthing More Focused

Way to go with your weight loss-- and 26 " !!! Great!! Sounds like you're doing good with your walking, sorry I'm not up on the info you asked for. As Kenya said if we're doing more than we did before it has to be good for us. I've joined Planet Fitness here in Ct. I really like it because they stress No Jugdement rules, they make you feel so comfortable. They have a 30 min. workout that I like. Also the price is right, $10.00 a month!! Continued success.
