| Concerns about going back to work
Hi all. I have just realized that I am going back to work in 1 week. I took 4 weeks off and that is the longest I have been away in 13 years. My office is about 45 people and a lot of them came to the hospital to see me but only my closest office friend has seen me since. I am 3 weeks out today, and I am worried about 2 overweight people that I work with. They both have been so negative about the whole thing since I started this journey. I consider my journey the decision that I made to change my food lifestyle and have the surgery. It took me 7 years to make this decison. I know that a lot of this is my issue, but I worry about them hating my guts and maybe thinking I took the easy way out. I am looking for people that might have had this issue to help me out. I also can't believe how many people don't want to eat in front of me. It is driving me crazy!!! I also feel that when I go back to work that people are going to watch me eat...but I guess that is how I felt before when I was eating A LOT. I am finally starting to hit some of this emotional stuff & it is a challenge. Thank you all.

It does get easier! I was worried about all that when I went back to work 6 weeks later. My friends were my friends and I was lucky! They did start with the "I dont want to eat in front of you", but I let them know that it was perfectly fine! They did joke that I was only eating enough to piss them off! LOLOLOL Dont fret so much, if they were your true friends, they still will be. As for the ones that think that you took the easy way out...let them go through this! There is nothing easy about this, we are still doing it for ourselves. You said it exactly right too, you made this decision for YOU and no one else. I too took several years of thinking it over...2 of my best friends had it done and it wasnt the "right decision for me" at that time. I had it done 4 years after one and 2.5 years after the other! That helped me a lot since they had already gone through it and had the same doctor! Good luck on your journey, we are all here for you!

I know it's hard, but try not to worry about what other people say or do. You did this for you, you know it was far from the easy way out (being gutted like a deer is not the easy way out). Your friends will grow with you as you explain things...'yes you can eat in front of me...' Some may ask questions, some may not, either way don't feel like your answers need to be defensive. There is no reason for you to feel defensive when talking to an ignorant person. If you go in defensive it will backfire - if you go in confident...it will all settle down in a little while, and for the ones who judge you...pray for them, they have other issues.

The ladies that have posted before me have very good advice. The ladies that a still overweight and whom wasnt very supportive will be ok. Just dont place judgement on them. They are either happy with who they are or dying in inside. Be who you was to them before and it will be ok. Dont worry about eating in front of them either. Just go on about yourself and that is gonna pass to.
Honey dont ever think in your mind you took the easy way out. Your gonna find there is nothing easy about this. Your gonna wanna punch someone that says that to you eventually or I feel that way. LOL.

you cannot hold yourself responsible for the actions/reactions of others...look out for you and let them wallow in their own misery....get a routine going...it's hard to make good choices at work and figuring out a routine is what saved me!

Keep in mind, those who are negative about you have their own issues, and that it's their issues, not yours. There is nothing you can do there, except when you are asked Qs, be honest, straightforward, informative, and stick to the facts. Sticking to the facts probably will help you most. You aren't resposible for other people's actions and reactions, they are. So just be yourself, and those who are your true friends will stand by you. Others? It's their loss, not yours.
Keep your head high, you made the choice that was best for you, and this is a decision no one else can make in your place. You did the right thing for you. You can only hope that the others will make the right choices for them.
Keeping you in my prayers that you find the strength in you to deal with whatever needs to be dealt with.

It Is Rather Funny How People Don't Want To Eat Around Us, Heh???
I Do Get Stares From Others Of My Co Workers Who Happen To Be Overweight, In Fact, Some Gals Have Started The Medifast Diet, As Well As Others Attempting To Eat As I Do...
I Don't Say Anything, Cause This Surgery was & Is Still My Decision...
Despite Times Of Upsets, Not Being Able To Keep Foods Down At Times, I Can Truly Say I Don't Regret my Decision One Bit!!!!!!!!!!!
IT IS OUR NATURE AS OBESE PEOPLE TO TRULY BE OVER CONCERNED ABOUT HOW OTHERS ARE FEELING, RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON OURSELVES, AT LEAST FOR ME THAT IS THE CASE!!!!!!!!
IF THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS, THEY'LL BE YOUR FRIENDS WHETHER YOUR FAT OR SKINNY...
GOOD LUCK, HON.
KEEP US POSTED HOW IT GOES.
LOL,

You are going to be fine. The people that say negative things are only because they are miserable themselves. I think your feelings are ones that we have all had, and I promise, it will all work itself out.

You are a people-pleaser, too, huh?
Everyone here has offered such wonderful insights. I am 50 years old (To quote a line from Fried Green Tomatoes..."I'm older and have better insurance.") and have come to a decision that my opinion is just that and anyone else's decision is just theirs. Can't get rid of them. They just exist.
By the time I made the decision to do this, two in my office had already had the surgery. Now, I have had the surgery and three others are in the bariatric prep classes. It has gotten to the point that the nay-sayers are pretty much in the minority.
I think what will amaze my co-workers is how little I will be eating. I didn't eat humongous portions (never ate out at work) but my lunchbag was full of random stuff that was all consumed in 30 minutes. Now I will be eating with a cocktail fork and a baby spoon. lol
I look forward to going back to work, in 4 weeks. My biggest fear is staying awake for the entire shift, as my noon naptime is VERY important right now (2 weeks out).
Congrats on your >40 lb weight loss, btw!
