| Any ideas on what to say?
My co-workers are like family to me. They have all been so supportive and excited for me. I have been completely open with all of them about having this surgery and what day to day life is like. (They all heard my FOAMIES story!)
The problem I am having is that some of them ask me about every other day....How much have you lost??? It is starting to drive me crazy. I know that they are excited & mean well but gosh.....I am trying to NOT get on the scale everyday and obsess about it. Maybe I created this monster??
Any ideas of what I might be able to say? Sometimes I just say....."I don't know." They look at me like I am bizarre for not knowing. Thank you all for being here!

My advice?
Just say, "Thank you for your love and concern, I'm feeling well and that's what's important to me right now", smile graciously and walk away. If they ask you about yoru weight, tell them, "I don't know, really. I decided to weigh in only at my dr's follow ups" even if you weigh yourself at home. A little white lie for your peace of mind is fine.

I absolutely agree with Doc! I let my coworkers know that I would have monthly updates for them and would let them know. THey were really understanding unless it came from someone that was outside of my office that I didnt see on a regular basis. Good Luck.

I know what you mean. I work with well over 100 people between doctors, nurses, aides, secretaries, etc... and I get asked CONSTANTLY!!! Even if that person hasn't asked me or seen me for a bit, 10 other people were asking! I just give them the last know number and they look at me in amazement and then ask me how I feel and then tell me I look great. I can play it in my mind because they don't realize they all do the same thing, lol! Except the nice one is when someone is on vacation plus I haven't worked with them or seen them and it's been a couple weeks and they act like you could knock 'em over with a feather because I have lost so much since they saw me last. Of course I don't notice because I see me everyday, so I really enjoy those because it makes me feel like it's really working and it's not only about the #'s.
So basically my advice is to give them your last number. If the number is the same a few times in a row, they'll stop asking for a while - trust me. Then when they ask you again it'll be 10-15 lbs down and they'll make you feel great by being amazed again!
The biggest thing where I work is how I feel because I work with all medical people and they ask about my labs and I think that's the clincher. To them I look great, feel even better and I always have a smile on my face now!

Good question! My surgery is in *counts*...68 hours and I haven't been quite so open with most coworkers (and some friends even) with what I'm doing on Wednesday. I have had people ask what surgery I'm having done as they do know I'm having surgery, just not WLS. With many people I don't feel comfortable telling them and it gets me in a difficult position. I would NEVER ask anyone what type of surgery they're having...but "Is everything okay? Is there anything I can do for you?" It's none of my darn business what they're having done. I know they mean well...but I think people lack courtesy at times. I'm done venting.
I agree with Doc...tell them you only weigh at the dr's office.

I knew I was going to have to tackle this situation at my work too. I am glad you asked it.
I am going with DocSanae's answer, I think. I went to work to drop off some papers a couple weeks ago and was MOBBED with questions especially how much had I lost. I think it will only take a day or two for the questions to stop, if I keep answer short and sweet and final.

I like what DOC said also, I did this for the health reasons primarily and that is my answer most of the time. I do think people mean well on the whole though, normal human nature to be inquizative. Kathy
