Just though I'd give you an update on my sister. She is 8 days post op and surgeon said that the surgery went better than he expected it to go. He didn't find cancer anywhere else. YAY! He did remove her whole rectum and she doesn't have to wear a bag. She does have a port now and will have to do 6 months of chemo for preventative but will be at high risk for colon or other types of cancer.
Bad news...she called me yesterday morning (X-mas) around 6 am and said she couldn't breath and her chest hurt. I got up and took her to the ER. They thought she had a blood clot but it turned out to be pneumonia on the right lung. The stupid discharge nurses didnt' tell her to bring home her breathing machine. So they gave her another one and an IV of antiboctics plus a script.
All in all things turned out okay. She is still having a hard time laying down and breathing. Christmas ended up okay. My kids are I are going to celebrate here tomorrow.

I'm so glad that they didn't find anymore cancer! Hopefully she'll recover from this pneumonia quickly. One question, if they removed her rectum and she doesn't need a bag, how does she, um... go?
I'm glad she actually went through with it and that your boss was nice enough to let you be there for it. Now it's all about recovery!
