Default OK, I'm not telling anyone else

OK, I need to vent, so let me apologize up front . I'm not telling anyone else about my surgery until after I have it. I decided telling a few family members would be a good idea. Well, I take that back. I told my sister-in-law, and of course she wanted to know why I wanted to have the surgery. This was her next comment: "Just to let you know, my cousin in New Jersey had that. She's no longer with us." Now, who wants to hear something like that when they are getting ready to have major surgery like this. As excited as I am about my new life coming up, and all people can tell me is they know somebody who died. Then she tells me it was not meant to scare me. I'm not scared, I'm excited for myself but yet pissed with you saying a comment like that. I still have not told my parents, and I'm wondering if I want to actually tell them or not, but I guess I'll eventually have to.

OK, sorry to be so long winded and fussy, but I had to vent my frustrations, and I know I can always come to you all for support .

5 weeks from today, I'll have my surgery.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I told family and close friends beforehand but still did not want it broadcasted like my mom would have done, like putting me on a prayer chain all thru out the church. Then after surgery, I found myself very open about telling people and I felt better doing that rather than hiding from it because its the best thing I ever did and It saved my life and was worth the risk!! I have not had a bad comment yet but some say they could never do it and I say I though the same way until I developed health problems.

I think most of us have been there. I told everybody and still tell everybody and have only had one person, my mother-in-law, say that I shouldn't have the surgery, but my sister did feel the need to share with me about someone who died. I didn't get upset with her, I just felt she was uninformed and she was worried about me. Did I need to hear it, NO, but she felt the need to tell me to make sure I knew what I was up against. I didn't hold it against her, I just gave her some facts.

Good luck as you approach your surgery date. Just keep your mind focused and you'll be fine.

I tell everyone. Heck, I even told the waiter at Red Lobster on New Years Eve. (Really I did, he was a very friendly waiter)LOL. I made this decision and I will stand by it. People die everyday and it has nothing to do with WLS. You will go when it is your time and on Gods terms.

I know all too well about those people who say " know someone who died from this surgery". That is one of the reasons I did not go through with the surgery. If you want the surgery, it is better to keep it to yourself and arm yourself with knoweledge. Every major surgery has it's risks. You have to decide if th benefits outway the risks.

*I* know people who have died from surgery. I also know people who died in the front yard gardening...shall I not garden any longer?

I wore my surgery announcement like a crown. Anyone who would hear it heard it. Of course,

Your mileage may vary. XXOO
