As most of you know my sister had a cancerous tumor removed in December from her rectum. She now is doing Chemo for 6 - 8 months. I have to say her spirits are pretty high considering what she is going through. She has or was doing treatment every other week for 48 non-stop hours however she had a reaction (swollen face, eyes and lips) and had to stop treatment 2 weeks ago to give her body some much needed rest. She has blisters in her mouth, hands and feet. Her hands and feet are peeling in sheets of skin....gross! Besides the treatment she has to get a shot twice a month because her white blood count is very low (25). They almost did a transfusion yesterday but are going to wait for new numbers tomorrow, per her request. This shot makes her bones HURT. She has had several rounds of IV drip because of non-stop bathroom issues. One piece of toast = 3 trips to bathroom. So their solution is to 1. give IV fluids and 2. she has to give herself a shot 3 x daily for the next 2 weeks to stop the diarrhea. She now has bruises all over her tummy from them. This is a girl who never wanted or needed to go to a doctor and who passes out at the sight of blood. Not kidding! Her hair is falling out pretty bad now and she is talking about getting a wig. I told her we'd shop together and go red together....teehee.
I give her so much credit and wish I could do more or take some of this away from her. Such a nasty, nasty disease.
As for the rest of my family things are getting OUT OF CONTROL health wise. Two months ago my aunt (mom's sister) was diagnosed with Graves Disease and last week my uncle (mom's brother) was put in the hospital and then transferred to another larger one to figure out what was wrong with him. His diagnoses is Guillain-Barré syndrome. Right now he has NO feeling in his legs and arms. At first they thought he was contagious so my family did not visit him in the hospital because we didn't want my sister to catch anything through us. He is her God Father and she is having a difficult time staying away.
Bill, my fiance, jokes that it is our Coal mined power plants we have here. They do not use coal in Vermont.
Talk about 'when is rains it pours'. Sorry this is sooooooooo long I guess I just really needed to talk tonight. It's been a long week. Thank you for listening my dear friends.
