My family were very supportive of my decision. My daughter went threw it a year before me and that really helped with my family and what to exspect of the surgery. I was kinda scared to tell them but they were so happy that I was going to have the surgery becasue they saw me suffer with all that weight I had on me. My family surprised me and were 100 % behind me. They told my daughter that they were so happy that I was going to have the surgery becasue they were so afraid for me with all my health problems I was having already. I told my best friend and wow did she ever help me. She called me just about every day to see how I was doing and always good things to say about me and my weight loss. I would have been lost without my best friend and my family supporting me. They always made sure that I could eat something when we were at their place for a meal. I had a wonderful support system with my family and my best friend. And of course all of you here at this site.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

My plan was to not tell very many, but I have missed work due to Dr appts and other stuff and my coworkers were worried about me, so I ended up telling them since I can't lie very well! I only told a few who are in my department because they will be the ones that take my work load on when I need to be gone. They are very supportive and I hope don't tell the whole floor of employees! My hubby was opposed, but is now coming around and my kids are supportive but don't live nearby anyway. When/if I get a surgery date I will need to inform my HR department and my boss and arrange the time off. The grapevine where I work is pretty alive, so my bet is that everyone will know. Guess I'll just have to deal with it.

Christine, I had an evil MILaw once, too. She was horrible. My current MIL is a sweet, sweet person. What a pleasant difference.
Night ya'll.

My problem is that my DH has told a couple of his friends about my surgery and I really got mad cause it's my business to tell when and if I want to. Telling one of his friends about it was good cause it turned out that his wife is going thru the process too so we compare notes, but I'm still irritated that he has been telling people. I don't want to talk about it and answer questions...Guess I'm just very scared of the process. I get very depressed and cry a lot. I can't even imagine what it will be like when I get close to the surgery!!!

Ellen, it's nice that you will have a support group right there near you. Between the friend's wife, RR and any other groups you find there, you'll be in fine shape. What you're feeling is pretty normal - keep in touch here and you'll find a lot of support.

How far along in the process is your friend's wife compared to you? Same doctor, by any chance?

Hi Prefesser, Yes same doctor, but she has to do a 6 month approved diet to get Medicare to pay for her surgery which I don't have to do. I went for my Dietician appt. today...seems awful over whelming to say the least!!!
It makes me feel a bit better when you said the way I was feeling was pretty normal.

I told people at work that I was having surgery, that it was serious, but that it was private. That was the end of that. My Mom and Dad were told after I had decided. They were concerned but supportive. My husband found out that I was having the surgery after I told him I had an appointment for the presurgery tests. He asked when we had decided that I was going through with it... I replied "we didn't. I did." My younger sister was very supportive and is trying to get the band, now. My older sister and brother were not in on the discussions. I told my parents that it was my decision, my battle, my victory. There were to be no "comments" about what someone had heard someone's best friend of a friend had heard had happened to someone they once babysat for. NONE. I researched. I investigated. I prayed. Then I let go and let God. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Quiet confidence speaks volumes. Best of luck to you. I pray that you have the strength of conviction to allow them their concerns and worries, and the faith to proceed with what is best for YOU. They are not mutually exclusive. You may acknowledge their worries, but do not allow them to sway you from caring for yourself!
