| Trouble eating out together...
My sweet hubby has been so supportive through this whole journey and was the nervous one before I had surgery. Now that I am almost 2 months out we are able to eat out, and go do fun things together again.
Here is my problem - I wear my timer for bites at EVERY meal. I ate two bites too fast one day and threw up and don't want to repeat that! But I know hubby can't eat that slow. His two things that are making me crazy are putting his napkin and silverware on his plate when he is done, so they immediately swoop in and takehis plate so I am sitting there eating alone, and #2 he gets up and pays the check before I am done eating!
I asked him to please not to do this as I feel pressured to hurry up and eat or simply abandon eating alltogether. I know the last time he paid the check and I had only taken about 5 bites, I was done. Had to come home and have a shake on top of dinner because I had not consumed near enough protein. How do you get the "I'M STARVING" spouse to slow down a little and be mindful that you are going to be there a while?

oh boy... umm... start off with telling your server its on seperate bills...?? Then he can go when hes done.
or ask the server if they have any crayons and colouring pages so he can draw you a picture while you finish...
Man im cold hearted when it comes to some mens insensitivity

It does seem very insensitive ~ if nothing else ... ask for a 'take home box' and finish it at home?

How about having hubby order a salad or a healthy soup with his meal. Have them bring out his soup or salad when your meal is ready and then when his salad comes have him order his meal.It can cook while he eats his salad. We have our kids orders placed as soon as we get there so they can get started and then we place ours after we look over the menu. For your situation you would both be eating at the same time, its just that he will have to slow down and wait for his actual meal to come and it will give you a chance to eat.

What's his hurry? Is it habit or are you going to be late for a very important date (if so, leave earlier!) If he displays such insensitivity for no good reason, then you are perfectly justified in taking the time you need to eat what you want. Just make a decision that you will not be stampeded. You can justify it for health reasons. Are his reasons better than yours?
If, after calm and unhurried discussion with him, he refuses to consider your feelings, you are under no obligation to yield to his childishness as a motivation to hustle. (Just make sure you are willing to take a cab home if he takes off! Oooohhh, what a discussion that would spark when you got home!! )

I agree with each and every post before mine. They are all right even the tripping him and calling cab. I hope you find somthing that works. If my hubby ever did that to me Honestly I dont know what I would do to him. Bring him a crossword to work on or somthing and let him know look im going to enjoy my meal at the pace I have to eat so......... if you wanna come do it if not go to Burger King after you drop me off at the resturant I wanna eat at. Im willing to hold him still while you punch him. Let me know incase I need back up!

I think it is very rude of him not to wait till you are done eating. My hubby waits till I am done eating becasue he is way done before me with eating. We just have a nice conversation while I am getting my food down and sometimes I ask for a take home container to take my leftover food home that I cannot get down and eat it later on that day at home. My daughter and I are usually one of the last ones done eating even at a family function and everyone waits patiently till we are done eating. If we are in a hurry, which happens sometimes, I take my food with me and eat it on the pickup.

After chiming in with everyone.
Taking this one step further. HE should LEARN to slow down, eat slowly, taste and appreciate his food, NOT INHALE it, it's for HIS OWN GOOD and HEALTH.
You know, Peanut, da perfesser's wife, upon seeing how good the surgery was for da perfesser, and deciding to go the route herself, the first thing she did was to slow down her eating, and that alone helped her shed some pre op weight.
Even if you eat the same amount, just by slowing down actually helps in controlling the weight. So, your DH should make the effort to match his pace to yours, he's eating much more than you are, right? |
