OK, got a call from one of the privilaged few whom I told that I was having WLS. Guess what she asked? "How much weight have you lost, I am sitting here with Susie and we got to talking and just wondered how much you have lost."
Problem one: Susie is not one of the "privilaged few".
Problem two: it really is none of their business. Guess I can plan to explain and answer questions to everyone in the company. UHG!
Let me say...in all my adult life I have NEVER asked someone how much weight they have lost / gained etc. What gives with the sense of entitlement and rudeness?
One other gripe while I am at it: a family member (Hubby's side) said when asking how much I have lost: "Is that all?"
Otherwise I am having a good spring...beautiful weather and I feel great!

Betsy best way to reply to all of this is ," it doesnt matter what I have lost it matters that I am healthy , I di this for a health choice not for the pounds , now if you want to know how healthy I am I will be glad to share that with you "
For me I dont care who knows I had the surgery or how much I have lost but I do want them to know I most likely would have never done it if it hadnt been a major health choice , and people seem to understand that better than just looking at the pounds...
Hold you head high , you have nothing to be ashamed of or feel insecure about, your health brought you to this point and you made the right choices ! Beats being in a casket

Yesterday I walked into work and my co-worker did her usual "oh wow, every week you just get slimmer and slimmer!" I replied, I haven't lost any weight this week, I weigh the same as last time you saw me" She said "not any? how can that be? You know what it is, its that chocolate milk you are always drinking!" She is referring to the 11 oz protein drink which I sip thoughout the day. Smack #1 for making comments about my weight every time you see me, which is at least 1x per week. Smack #2 for telling me how to eat.
Did you tell this person that she was one of the "privleged few" and that you were not interested in sharing with others? Sometimes people assume that if you told them, you don't mind who knows.

Honey that is a question you will be asked alot belive it or not. Yes alot. I got asked that so often and acutally I couldnt keep up with it after a while. I never was asked how much I weighed to start off with but at one point I did tell some one? LOL. As for the thing is that all? ....... well I tell them like I like to tell people losing it..... when you think omg all I have lost is 20 lbs is next time your in the grocery store pick up a 5 pound bag of sugar see how heavy that is.. then pick them all up get the picture? Honey its ok.....and if it bothers you that much..... ask them if they would like the number to your surgeons office......... I did that to one lady never had a problem with her again. LOL....... Hey its your life...... you have taken the reigns now make it your own...... its hard at times..... take it with a grain of salt and move on........ on the bad days..... let it fly..... Take care.....

When they ask how much you've lost, tell them your health stats, like "I lost 35 points on my cholesterol, 285 on my triglycerides, 50% on my blood pressure ..."
They have no right to any information you don't want to share, and you are under no obligation to play their game, but answering like this will drive home that you're doing it for your health, not your mirror.
Then if they say "but how much weight have you lost?", simply smile and reply "oh, I don't know. I haven't been tracking that much!" (Even if it's stretching the truth, it'll mess with their minds something fierce!!)
Just remember - you have an island of sanity here to lift you back up when they try to get you down!!

You certainly would have been in your right to have pointed out that you had chosen only a few people to share with that you were having major surgery. Then pointed out that you didn't appreciate that you shared that information which was PERSONAL with "so and so" and HUNG UP THE PHONE.
maybe I'm just getting more b***hy about this kind of thing now that I'm 48 ha! but dang it..I'm sick to death of people gossiping about people and doing that kind of childish teenage chit!!! Are they 13? come on really now!
I've certainly had enough 'gossip' slung my way with this surgery I had this past 3.5 weeks ago. That I read this and it about sent me over the edge on your behalf!
We have the right to either share or NOT share. If you choose to NOT share then they shouldn't share it either. If you choose TO share then people shouldn't gossip about what the surgery 'really was for' kind of nonsense!
This is all major surgery and really none of their business in the end what you weight is now OR at goal!
hmph!!!

it won't be long, however.... until the "that's all" becomes "holy crap!" I know it's frustrating, but hang in there. You're still brand new.... before you know it, they'll be chomping at the bit to look like you! LOL

Just tell them all to go to hell! LOL I am lucky that 99% of my co workers are great and have supported my decision for surgery. If they are talking about it, they haven't let it get back to me. The other 1%? Well, she doesn't talk to me anyway. LOL You should be proud to have just have made the decision to have the surgery and you are doing wonderful! Just think...you would have never lost what you have so far on your own, right? Give yourself a pat on the back and kick the others in the head and just smile!

You did this for you... and your health ever one else can eat a @#$%... you continue to feel great and do you...

To everyone else, for future reference... screw what everyone else is saying about how much weight you have lost and how much you should be losing it ain't their business.. and you can tell them I said, they can eat a bag of baby @#$%&...
