So since May I've been pretty militant about what's going "into the tank" fully of the belief that the better the fuel is that goes into the tank, the longer the the vehicle (my body) will last.
When I was pregnant I got two tidbits of advice that for me were profound, and valuable...#1.) Savor every moment of your first pregnancy, you can have a dozen more, but none of them will be like your first (everything is so new!) After three wonderful kids, I can attest, this is true...#2) (and the one that actually relates to all of this) "When you have children, live like you're being recorded...because you are!"
(all of this IS leading somewhere...promise)
So twice a week I take my three darling children to Core Power sessions (geared for kids, the focus is to increase strength in their core muscles) Today, we all pile into the van, running late, I gave them dessert in the van (which was a box of raisins each) halfway to where we're going I hear my oldest, DS7, tell me "Mom, I don't think raisins were such a good choice." I'm expecting to hear how they've spilled or his fingers are sticky, or SOMETHING. So when I asked why, this is what I got in resonse "The label says there are 30 grams of sugar in these, that seems awfully high to me, and the fiber and protein are really little numbers. I need to keep my sugar down if I'm going to be healthy." For him, eating well has nothing to do with "being skinny" it's more about being healthy...as it should be
Folks, I will not deny, I wept. I was not only crazy proud of him wanting to have an interest in taking really good care of himself now, rather than after he puts on loads of weight and has to struggle to take it off. But also because as a child, I KNOW that would/could never have come out of my mouth. My mother (God rest her soul, she was doing the best she knew) when she would get stressed about my weight, that's when the jello would come out and that was pretty much what I was eating. (today I can barely stomach it)
I am so excited by the boys' interest and love that we're going to learn healthier living TOGETHER.
Just wanted to share
