Default DH may be getting lap-band!!!!

Last Friday was my day off. Hubby is working the night shift and I work days so we don't see each other except on weekends or days off. So he came home from work and I was having my morning coffee and cig on the porch, and he said he was thinking of jumping in the hot tub to soak his achy muscles and would I care to join?

So sitting in the hot tub is a great way to get a conversation going, there's very little distractions and nothing to do but relax and .... talk. Get your minds outta the gutter. LOL This is the first time I've been in the tub in ages and I was surprised that I sank right to the seat instead of floating like I used to. That led to me talking about how much happier I am now that I've lost the weight, etc, etc. So I asked him if he was still thinking about WLS and he said he didn't think he was big enough to qualify (someone's in denial here). So I told him I would look up his BMI later.

So I wrote down his height and weight and his BMI is 35, which puts him in the obese category. I think that's what shocked him into realizing that he needs to do something. He's got plenty of co-morbidities: he's had asthma all his life, is on a CPAP for sleep apnia, has high blood pressure, horrible cholesterol/triglycerid levels, and his father had a stroke when he was in his 50's. He gets out of breath extremely easily (I can work circles around him now) and it often turns into an asthma attack when this happens.

So I came home last night and saw that he had made notes on the pad where i had written his stats. Apparently he had called the insurance company and checked to see if they covered WLS and they cover the band if he's BMI 35 with co-morbidities.

Keep your fingers crossed - I think he might actually do this after 3 years of watching me lose the weight and keep it off. Praise the Lord!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That is great news!
I am sure you worry about his health and eating habits.
But as we know it has to be his desire.
Fingers crossed....

I am praying that things will work out for him. Thanks for sharing, this gives me hope, I have planted the seed for hubby, but promised that I wouldn't say anything beyond that. Maybe in 2-3 years he will consider it.

Thanks again.

I think denial is a worse disease than obesity!! Once you start a crack in that shell, it could spread all the way until the shell splits wide open!!

Good luck to both of you! I know how sweet it is when your spouse joins you in weight loss and getting healthy. It's made a huge difference in the happiness level at the perfesser's home!!

Oh Barb, you sure must be worried about his health and the fact he called the insurance company is a huge step. Hope he sticks to the idea so you two can live happy for many, many, many years!

Mel, about 6-7 months after my surgery (80-90 pounds lost) I stood Peanut in front of a full-length mirror, nekkid, and asked her to look, really look at herself (she never had - I'm sure everyone understands why). I told her that what she was doing wasn't working and she was just kidding herself if she thought it was. I also said that I didn't care if she did it the way I did it or if she found some other way that worked, but I asked her to please, PLEASE do something that'll work. Then I shut up and never mentioned it again.

A month or so later I was at the surgeon's office for a checkup and she mentioned something to the nurse about she wished she could have the surgery but didn't qualify. Nurse asked why, they discussed it, and Peanut signed up then and there for the info seminar. A week later she was bragging at her family reunion that she was going to do what I had done. Seven months later she was a brand-new, full-liquid postie! You can see the results in pics I've posted elsewhere or sometimes at the top of the banner in the display photos there.

Considering she was absolutely dead set against my surgery when I first brought it up, and still thought I was crazy when I did it, I'd call it progress!

Never give up!! But for heaven's sake, don't nag either!! It has to be right, but when it is ...

It sounds like your DH is on the road to realizing that he has to make a change, and I'm sure you are a great inspiration to how successful WLS is! I hope he continues to seek out. I can only imagine how thrilled you'll be if he carries through. Good luck to both of you!!
