| My wife is driving me crazy!!
So I'm 1 week out of surgery, and my wife is driving me batty!! LOL....not really, but we just got in an argument. She makes me feel like I'm not eating enough, or drinking enough, and telling me to do something I shouldn't. I know what I need to do with my eating, and it doesn't help when I look to her as a nurse to give me guidance. Right before dinner, she told me to drink some protein shake. I knew I was going to be eating an egg soon and told her I didn't need to drink. She said "it's fine to drink them together." I knew it was wrong but followed her advice. Ten minutes later, the egg is waiting for me on the table. I take a couple bites and the pouch says "enough for me!" I push it away and my wife looks at me with this irritating scowl like I should've eaten the entire thing. I said I'm sorry, but I am done. So then we get in this blown-out-of-proportion yelling match about what I should be doing. I find it so irritating when she tells me to do the wrong thing and then gets mad at me when I don't listen to her. GRRRRRR!!! Sorry for the blow up, but I had to vent!

awww... sounds like shes a bit worried for you!
Why dont you sit her down in front of the comp and get her to look on here? Maybe ask some questions if she wants?
You know what you need to do, stick with that, but it sounds like she wants to be involved in helping you, so, yeah, get her on here either on your profile or maybe her own even?
You 2 will work it all out and find a way to fit the new you eating plan into your days.
Best wishes (to you both!)

That seems to happen often with partners, they don't know what your Dr. has told you or they feel that they know better than the Dr. Sorry, that must really be annoying, Ya'll will work it out.

I went through the same thing with my DH. He still brings me a glass of milk when he makes dinner sometimes. You need to follow the doctors advice and go by the rules you know but at the same time you dont want to hurt your wife who is trying to help. I agree to get her on here for some info and to ask some questions.
Amy

My husband is the exact opposite! If I try to take a sip of something he'll tell me that it's only been 29 minutes! He also tells me that I'm eating too fast..... I get that it should take 30 minutes to eat, but seriously.... a soft boiled egg???? It usually takes me 15-20 minutes, and he completely bugs out!
I think our spouses just want to see us succeed as we have already put so much time and energy into changing our lives. They just want what they think is best for us.
But I totally understand the frustration!
Hope it gets bettter!

There is a steep training curve for us on this journey, and we're totally committed to it. It's harder for a bystander, even the most interested one, to get it all right in only the first week. Education is better than hurting feelings, though. Go through your materials with her, explain the things you've learned here and other places she may not have been. In the end, no matter how helpful she wants to be, you are the one who pays the price for wrong counsel.
Make it clear that you really do value her interest and involvement, especially when you read here of spouses who don't care, or worse. But you must be the "expert" here.
One of the dangers of WLS is that it can put tremendous strains on a relationship. You are entering a perilous time. It will take a lot of working together and a minimum of sharp words to make it through the next 6 months. Explain that to her, also, if you can and tell her that you aren't ignoring her or devaluing her contributions. Make sure she still feels involved in this change you're going through. Especially if she is in need of weight loss herself, it can be highly frustrating for her to watch the shrinking process you're going to go through in the next little while. Do everything you can to make it a smooth journey.
My wife tried to be helpful when I had my surgery, but she hadn't learned all that I had. I had to recalibrate her a time or two (gently, with love and patience!) When she had her RNY a year later, she had learned a lot from me and the process she'd just been through and she knew that when I "nagged" her (she'd given me permission!!) I was telling it how it is.
Good luck!!
