| What to tell people?
As we all know, the WLS process is very personal. I have only told those who are close and I know will be supportive and they have been. I have not told my father because I know he will have the oh so hated reaction of "you're cheating and taking the easy way out". I don't plan on him knowing until after the surgery...or never. My question is, what's your response when somebody asks you "how did you lose it?"?

I would say that it isn't any of anybody's business unless you deem they should know. Otherwise it is, Oh I have been eating better and exercising." ;-) So far I haven't had to deal with it. Only those who are close to me know or I have voluteered the information to others. I haven't had any negative reactions so far.

Thank you Keri I was thinking that but wasn't sure how it usually plays out when you do tell people that. Congrats on all of your success |

A few close friends know I had surgery.
Generally I say I am on a high protein diet and am getting more exercise.
I am comfortable with that, for now.

There's a whole lot more where these came from. Search the archives and you'll find just about anything you can think of in there.

I'm very open about my choice to have WLS, I told everyone I could before surgery and now tell anyone who asks the truth about how I lost so much weight. I did encounter a few nay-sayers, but I didn't let them bring me down. It's my life and I'm finally living it, and at times I want to climb up on the roof and shout it out to the whole wide world.....LOL

Some people say, "wow, you've really lost the weight" and I'll respond "yeah, a little". Some ask "how are you doing it?" and those that I don't mind telling, I tell them the truth and for others, I tell them "I'm really watching what I eat", which is the truth. A lot depends upon you, if you want to tell, and if so, all or few, etc.
I have not yet gotten to normal BMI...I'm finally "overweight" instead of obese. So, I haven't heard the "are you done" or "you look sickly" comments that others have gotten. I'm sure I'll have to figure that out when I get there.
Best wishes!

You should always be truthful, but you are under no obligation to tell them the whole truth if you don't feel like it. How far into yourself are you comfortable bringing others?
I'm not shy about it, but I leave the idle curious on the outer rings. Once they find out it's as boring as changing your relationship with food, killing carbs and carbonation, portion control, etc. (all of which is completely true), they typically lose interest because it requires work. They're looking for the real "easy way" (which doesn't exist), not our "easy way" (which does, but isn't)!!

I didn't tell my father either. We have Sunday dinner together every week I know he notices I'm not eating much but he never says anything. Do what you have to do for yourself.. Good luck. Sandy
