Default they are behind me but....

So my parents are behind me on this decision. I know that they don't understand why i can't just lose all of the weight and keep it all off, you all know the comments we get about that. My Mom however although she goes to my appointments with me still doesn't think i can do this. I have changed my eating habits and started excercising everyday. What else do she want pre? Ok yes i had a half a chocolate bar about a month ago, and we all know about those yummy chocolate chip muffins that i tried getting away with by saying that muffin tops have less calories and sugar than the bottoms,(the food police didn't let me get away with that by the way).lol. It's just so frustrating that she can't see what i am doing to be prepared for this surgery and the lifestyle changes i m going to have to make. i tell her about the eating and excercise, and she never really says much more than that's good. If she finds out i've eaten something i shouldn't or even if i say i want something i shouldn't, (because i figure i'm allowed to want as long as i don't have), she jumps on me, you won't be able to eat that after the surgery, if you can't give it up now what makes you think you can give it up after........ (and on and on and...). I think i've been doing pretty good considering that my diet used to consist of chips and chocolate and pizza and pop, and nothing more. AAARRRRGGGHHHH! It's just so frustrating at times.
OH my Dad thinks i'm doing great! We talk about it and he's really supportive about my choices.
and my brother thinks i'm just taking the lazy way out,(this coming from a guy who can eat junk food all day and then 2 large pizza's and not gain a pound),
Sometimes thin people are so annoying. They just have no idea.
Thanks for letting me vent. felt good to finally get that out.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Krys, just remember that your taste changes after surgery and things that tasted so good may not taste so well afterwards. Also there is a thing called "headhunger" that you have to fight as well.

You have to know you are making the right choice for yourself and noone else. This is a decision that you have to deal with for the rest of your life. They can say what they want but in the end, it's all up to you. I have heard about the "easy way" and "why don't you just push away from the table" from people but you know what, they are the ones that don't understand the surgery. The best thing you can do for them is to gather as much information on the surgery and present it all to them so they understand exactally what you are going to have to go through. Then hopefully they will see this is not the "easy" way out. It is much harder than most even think. You see the struggles of some of us just by being in the chat listening to our problems. Maybe you should present some of this to your family, even invite them to sit in on the chatroom.

Sorry Im rambling!

Shelley

Thanks x
i know it's my decision and in the end i'm the one who has to deal with the changes after. I haven't heard of head hunger but i have been trying to eat only when i'm hungry, i think that's what you mean by head hunger, thinking your hungry when your not? so used to eating so much the brain tells you you haven't eaten enough? Anyway, I have invited them to this site, my dad never uses the computer, (insists that it's too hard to fiqure out), i don't know why my mom doesn't hasn't come here and as for my brother he really doesn't want to know. he says life is choices and i chose to be this way. Yeah like i wanted narcolepsy and sleep apnea and everything else. And i have a binder full of information on the surgery, what it does, what they do inside of you, the changes it makes. i showed it to my mom and that's when she started saying she didn't think i could do this. anyway, I'll show them .
thanks for the encouragement x.

Quite often, family can be the worst of your enemies, because they try to tell you and make you do what they think is best for you, and not, what do YOU think is best for yourself, what do YOU need, and abide by that. It's whole lot harder than having your friends question your decision.
As for your brother , well, I wouldn't be surprised if one day, he finds himself in the same spot you are, for even though there are people who can eat more and get away with it, there is a limit to how much, and if you overdo it, obviously, you are going to get certain results from your actions.

About head hunger, have you read what Craig's written in Reflections? If you look around, maybe you can find the answer to your question.

HEY KRYS...
well my dad, may he rest in peace now, was not for my deicion for
surgery. He felt this was much to drastic. BUT i knew for my health
and well being i had to do this.

I really didnt tell many people I was having the surgery till the weight was
comeing off and i was successful. SO now when people ask how i lost
so much i tell them.

MANY people around us are just uneducated of weight loss surgery when they say its the easy way out. ITS not, it will still take displine and self control.

I think your doing great!
YOU will prove all them wrong
all the best
talk to u as always in chat
lisa

Thanks everybody.
I have to say after venting about my mother and brother that Roo and my Dad and a very close family friend are with me 100% on this. Roo is even changing his eating habits with me.

that is great to hear free. everything will work out in its own time. You will triumph over this. You have already made big strides on this journey and you need to remember that you are strong and capable. Please feel free to vent whenever you need to. That is what we are here for.

Hello there. I was lucky in the sense that my parents were very supportive of me when i decided to have the surgery. I am not saying they were not scared out of their minds though. My mom tends to make comments every now and then before and even now that sometimes i think just dont come out right. Alot of what parents and loved ones say is out of fear and just not knowing enough about the surgery. It sounds like your mom is just scared for you and that is totally normal. She wants what is best for you and maybe her words just dont come out right. Your brother again may just be scared for you and figures if he discourages you a bit maybe you wont go through with it. The best thing to reassure your family is to help them learn as much as possible about the surgery, about your feelings and about what to expect. Hang in there . From talking to you in chats and reading your posts i know you are going to to great !

My family was behind my having surgery but the support has become non existent since then. They are of no help whatsoever and it is hard as I go through all the ups and downs with mood and such right now. I wish there was more time for chat as you all understand and have given great support.
