| I'm really let down....
my husband supports me with my weightloss....but he sure doesn't help me. While I'm writing this post, he is sitting across from me eating McDonalds.
But the bad things is - he bought home the food for our 2 kids. I've talked to him and he is nice about it and says he knows, but then never stops his ways. Junk food at night after dinner is killing me. I stay strong and stick with my plan, but his ways are very disheartening. And besides all of this he is extremely over weight, too...but says he would never have the surgery.
I'm really let down that he is this way and bringing our kids this ways too.
He's a great great man. I love him more than life just the way he is - but does he have to snack on junk food all the time???

My wife swore she'd never have the surgery ... until I was close to goal and having a ball and she was still fat, sweating and gasping for air. Sometimes it'll take a bit longer for the non-WLS spouse to really appreciate what can be done.
Stick to your guns, follow the rules, and some time you may be able to sneak in an intervention just to get him thinking about it. What really helped us was the day (I was down about 100 pounds at the time) I stood her, naked, in front of a mirror and made her look at herself. I told her I didn't care how she did it, whether she followed my example, bought a mail-order food plan, went to a weight loss group, whatever it took, but please, please do something!! A couple of weeks later, she started the process for RNY. That was over 100 pounds ago, and she's never looked back.
Don't expect miracles to happen right away. He's probably seen you diet down and regain a time or two. He may want to see if you can make it work before he invests himself in it. Peanut did.
Be strong!! The kids need a good example of positive nutrition in their lives.

| I know what you are talking about, the only difference here is that my husband is very thin and always has been. I just stick to my guns and try to work within my plan. Sure I have fallen off the wagon, but I hop right back on and get going. |

| Thanks....
Thanks for replying Perfessor and Kathy.
It helps to know that other people have had the same things going on. I am just sticking to my guns and my plan!!
I am 3 1/2 months out since surgery and I am down 70 lbs. I'm feeling great with more energy than he knows what todo with!! I'm walking, playing outside with the kids, yardwork, cleaning out the house...and feeling great!!
He's always saying he can't believe it!! Maybe soon he will want to feel the same way!! I'm loving this new feeling!!
Thanks again!!
Karla

I didn't have to do anything with my husband...he did it on his own. I wish I knew what to tell you as far as a "secrete weapon" or something....(hugs). He says he would have lost his weight if I had had surgery or not. He went from 217 down to 178 by cutting out sweets and eating late night snacks. He is active because of his job. He is 50, to turn 51 this year. Me, I cut out sweets and soft drinks and lost 8 lbs in 3 months. Go figure. Anyway, he did it on his own to feel better. My daughter thinks he did it so that when I lost weight, he wouldn't be overweight. With his dieting, food choices have greatly changed. My husband does a lot of cooking due to my work schedule. This meant the brownies stopped, the desserts quit showing up, etc. Instead, more healthy food choices appeared. Man, the kids complain too! "There's nothing to eat", when there is less junk food in the house. I still treat them to some things, but I've noticed my oldest eating more salads and asking me about caloric and fat in items.
I hope this works out for you. Warmest wishes...
Mel

im on the same boat as u. im only 9 days out of surgery and my husband i killing me by buying sweets and making crap for dinner. Now that i am getting ahold on myself im going to start cooking again. When ever i think about the foods and how they taste, i think about how sick i would be, an that subides the craving.

I think the smell of the junk food fat is still appealing to me. I am further out than you. I have eaten the inside of a grilled chicken snack wrap no sauce... it was ok.
Could he take them to McDonald's? Then at least you wouldn't have to smell it.??
On the other hand, once you start getting into the groove he may sit up and take notice.
There are many changes for everyone in the family with WLS>
Keep posting..
Good luck.

A huge factor in bringing Peanut around was when she saw the kinds of meals I was eating and realized that I wasn't giving up anything worth keeping. Then she saw that she could still have chocolate ... !!!
I'm the cook, so she had no choice but to eat what I made. She found that she enjoyed it more than what we had been eating. From there the mental gap to WLS got smaller and smaller. Fear of the unknown is enormously powerful, and eating is a major source of enjoyment, so it's hard to make that leap to a new way of eating. It can be done, but you have to work into it.
There's still hope for your family. Consistency on your part and the creation of tempting menus will carry you a long ways to your objectives of a family enjoying good nutrition. You can't turn a big ship around in a hurry, but you can change its course if you're patient.
