| Deep Thoughts ...
It’s amazing to me how 8 little letters can change your life. D-e-m-e-n-t-i-a. Suddenly plans and dreams are scrapped and new priorities emerge from the wreckage.
I have an old Greyhound bus that’s been converted to a motor home. We haven’t taken it out in the last few years because … (insert other priorities here.) I’ve been working on it a little bit here and there, fixing it up as our retirement home. Suddenly it has moved way up on the gotta-do-it list! I want to have it put back together and running strong by the end of next semester so we can hit the road and spend a month or two this summer seeing this great country of ours. While she can still enjoy it. Making memories that’ll be taken from her soon enough.
While she’s in the hospital, I’m going through my garage and throwing away projects that I’ve always intended to finish. Get them out of the way so they don’t distract from my central mission – taking care of Peanut. Last week I hauled out close to a ton of scrap metal. I think I can do that again next week – maybe twice!
I was supposed to go to a seminar next week. I’ve really been looking forward to it. It’s directly related to my research project at work. I was relieved when it was cancelled on Monday. It was only a two-day class, but now I begrudge the time away.
I want to make the next few years count. They may be all we have.
Last year I went through the tenure process. Took about 5 months to pull my application and documentation together to submit it. The application itself filled a 3” binder, and the documentation filled a 4” one. After I turned it in, it took seven months to work its way through the system from my department to the university president. He smiled on it. At least I have some measure of job security now. I was thinking of retiring in 7 years or so. The doctor says 7-10 years for Peanut. Looks like I may be working until it’s over. I need the health benefits, and I think it’ll be best for her to have a stable environment when that time comes.
I do not know how I could make it through this if I did not have a strong faith in God and His plan for us. He sent us here to prove ourselves worthy of Him and to have joy in this life. He loves each of us, and if He sees the little sparrow fall, can He be any less aware of me? My sister is a militant atheist. Seems like rather a bleak outlook to me. If we are all there is, there isn’t much to this life! If you can’t ask for, and receive, help from a loving Heavenly Father, how can you make it through the trials of life?
Well, I guess that’s enough deep thoughts for one morning. I’m playing hooky today so I can grade papers and do a few things around the home. Guess I’d better get to it!
I sincerely do thank you for your support. It really helps. I love you all!

I posted this in another thread for you.
I had intended to post this but haven't had the time to.
The other day, I was reading a manga (yes, I read mangas, we have some really good ones here that probably never get translated) that dealt with an Alzhimer patient. He had left his home to spare his wife from having to look after him, but she just searched him out, and told him "If you forget the happy times we had together, I will remember together with you. If you still keep forgetting, we can make new happy memories together, we can fall in love again, over and over, each time you forget."

Oh my word - I can't even begin to imagine being married that long and being at the stage in life that you and Peanut are. I don't know what to say except my hugs and prayers are with you.
And Doc - that's just beautiful.

CT, Peanut is a very blessed woman to have you in her life. I know this road you two are on now will not be easy but thank goodness you do have faith in God who will lead you down this bumpy road. When things like this happen it certainly does make you realize what's really important in life. Quote: |

CT, I'm always amazed at how much you love Peanut. It shows every time you talk about her. That's something that many people don't have, at least not in the depth that you display and certainly not for so long. You have something precious, and I know you know that, but I just wanted to remind you. Sometimes it takes something like this to remind us to value what we have, every second that we breathe, because it won't always be there. I know you are going to make every second count from now on.

Hey CT,
Take care of yourself..ok? Can't take care of Peanut if you aren't in good shape first.
Making new memories and memory books from the pictures is something you will have to look forward to. My prayers to you both as she continues to make enough progress to return home.

As long as you hold on to your faith in God, He will keep upholding you with His strength. I am sure He knew what He was doing the day He joined you and Peanut in marriage. That's how I feel about Mark. You and Peanut; me and Mark...each of us with 37 years of marriage with the same person. That's 74 combined years for us, and you know as well as I do that we didn't get here by accident. Nor did we bail out on each other everytime something didn't go quite right. We stayed the course and worked it through, all because we were always protected by the grace of God. I know for a fact that you maintain your course because you do have faith in our Lord. Sometimes it seems as though that's all you have, is your faith. I'm sorry about your sister. I cannot for the life of me figure out how anybody can make it through this life in one piece, not believing that Someone out there, somewhere, doesn't determine the paths we walk in our lives. It would be too scary to think of going it alone. Imagine an airplane pilot flying without a navigation system. You and Peanut are always in my prayers and I will say extra ones tonight in church for you both. We all love you, too!!
