I brought my wife home today! Picked her up a little after noon and took her to Old Country Buffet for lunch (good variety, and it is
NOT hospital food!!) She had a nice green salad with several proteins on it. Then we went home. Just after we got on the highway, I handed Peanut her cellphone and told her to call her mother. That took care of the next 30 miles until we were almost home.
I had her sit in the porch on the bench there while I went to get the dog. Yesterday I'd brought some of her stuff home, and I opened the case so Dixie could smell it. That must have worked, because she easily accepted Peanut when she first saw her. (I'm sure the handful of apple pieces I gave Peanut for the dog had
nothing to do with it!

)
We walked the dog, then I went to the pharmacy to fill seven new prescriptions. I also bought Peanut a new 28-bin pill box (7 days x 4 times a day to take them). She's sure gonna need it to stay up with all these drugs!!
While I did that, she settled down with the finances. I kept expecting her home, so I put everything off, and now she has to find out if we have any money left! (I'm betting we have more than she thinks. I really didn't spend much while she was gone!)
Anyway, the 6-week hospital stay is over! Now we get to find out what life is all about with this new thing as part of it.
Last year in the after-Christmas sales, we scored a super deal on a 7-foot tall artificial tree with lights already installed. It was a floor demo, so we saw it then, but not since. Last night I set it up and had the lights on when she got home. She's been playing Christmas music ever since while she worked.
With all the doctor appointments in the near future, and it being so soon after she got out, we decided to cancel our trip home for Christmas. It's 1200 miles each way across the plains of Wyoming and South Dakota, in winter, so she could spend a week or more with her mother. No way could she handle that stress load!! So we'll be decorating this year, and won't have to worry about a cat helping us this time!!
So life is moving in the direction of whatever our new normal is. The next year is gonna be quite a ride!!
Thanks all for your thoughts, prayers and PMs. It has meant a lot to me to have the support of my friends here.
Oh, BTW - she lost about 15 pounds while she was in the hospital!

Kind of a rough way to do it, though!
