Default Not Planning to tell anyone about my surgery, stupid?

I just recently finished all requirements for my packet to be sent to insurance for approval. I have made the decision, that outside of my husband and close relatives I will not tell people I had the surgery.

I don't want people to think I took the easy way out, or that I didn't have to work for my weightloss and I feel the easiest way to avoid judgement about this is to not tell them.

Is this stupid or do I have the right to keep this a secret?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

OH, the easy way out conversation. I think we have it every month. I told those people I knew would ask eventually at work, and only my husband. I ended up back in the hospital a week after surgery so the gig was up at that point. It's your decision...be prepared to explain yourself after you start losing lots of weight. Perfesser has some great advice of what to tell people, as it will come up. Best of luck to you!!

Congrats on your decision to have this surgery, it is definately life changing!
This is totally your decision and everyone makes it based on different reasons. If this is what you feel comfortable with, don't feel guilty about it.
I chose to tell everyone because I was proud that I finally took this difficult road and had done enough research to tell people this is NOT the easy way out. That, and I knew the couple people I HAD to tell at work would not keep their mouths shut.
Some tell, some don't. Don't second guess yourself.
Good luck!!

You absolutely have the right not to tell anyone! When I first went to have surgery, only my immediate family, parents, and close supportive friends knew. About a month after surgery, I let it all out on my blog and have made it my mission to make sure people know this isn't the easy way at all. I've personally found freedom in sharing my experience...even with strangers!

Tell whomever you like and don't worry about the others. I haven't told everyone just my closest family members and a few friends, I'm not ashamed but I know some of my friend's don't agree with it and didn't want to deal with their opinions.
Congrats to you and best of luck as you begin this journey. And by the way this is most definitely not the easy way out, far from it!

I've told my immediate family, my supervisor, one friend who's had the surgery and one other friend.... I know others will find out over time, but I just don't want to get into it beforehand

Only a few people know I had it.
At t his point I pretty much say what Perfesser said on an earlier post...
something like I am doing an Aitkins type thing...lots of protein and water, low carbs, calories and sugar. And I go to the gym all the time and got a trainer.
I have worked at this for about 14 months, so...it is "feasible".
But I, too, am not ashamed or embarassed. It is just the way I want it for now.

I told only the folks who had to know at work. A couple of very close friends and that's it. I still have not told my mother. Somehow they would ruin my accomplishment with their comments. It's been almost 2 years now and I usually just talk about the plan we follow. That is enough to justify my loss. Do what makes you comfortable.

It's your decision, it's your body, it's your news to tell, but once you tell one person who won't honor your confidence, everyone knows. The best way to keep a secret is ... don't tell anyone!

We had a pretty good discussion about this a few years ago ...

Default Who knows

My husband, a friend that has had GB and another friend that I know I can trust. I haven't told my kids(2 live at home and one at college),my parents or Inlaws. I found out about 4 weeks before surgery, I have food allergies- Food molds. No cheeses, fermented, smoked or pickled items. Etc. so that is my cover, plus I needed my Gallbladder out. When they took that out during GB, they actually had problems it was so bad. The doctor told us, it was like cement and he had never seen one so bad.
I did this for ME and don't feel I owed anyone else a chance to judge my choice. I grew up with a Mom that is obsessed with weight. She has strong opinions of people who are too "weak" to stay slim.
I battled long enough and knew THIS was my last chance to take control and be healthy.
In no way is this the easy route. I have explained the entire journey to my friend and she is amazed. She has so much respect for those of us that have chosen to do this.
