| Just My Opinion !!
Ive been reading alot of posts here about alot of people being upset or worried about there family or friends opinion about them having WLS . Like alot of you here I have friends and relatives that look down at me or think I could do other things to lose weight . Thank God I have my wife and two sons , who are behind me 100%. As far as the rest of my family and friends who look down at me - who gives a crap what those idiots have to say! You think Im going to beg for those gossip mongers approval... I Dont Thnk So !!!! Im disabled and my health is very much on the line , my Doctors say that WLS and some hard work will bring it all back to me...well now...also my Drs say that my life will be much better with the surgery , than if I didnt have it ! Correct me if Im wrong but I think most of us are and was in the same boat ! Please dont give your possitive outlook away to these pompass cowards that think the world is hanging on there every word ! Besides if they dont agree what your doing. and your scared to tell them for fear of what they say and if there not behind you in a choice that you made to improve yourself...can you really call them friends ?

Just one thought, though. Please do give a chance to those who really really care about you and love you, but can't be positive about the surgery because of their lack of knowledge, to learn and understand the truth about this surgery. Many of them probably have negative thoughts because the only things they know about WLS is all hear-say from non-professionals, and there is a good chance that they will come to understand through firsthand education from the very professionals who work with you for your health.
(((((HUGS))))) and kudos to your wife and children.

One great way to look at it. I just ignored the negative people in my life. It wasn't worth the arguments. In the end, I've had no real problems with anyone in my life and most were concerned about me both before I had the surgery and during and they are all a lot more relieved now.

Jerry I do agree with you honey. At the point your at right now you have to surround yourself with positive people and not negative ones. Its there own problem if they cant understand.
I personally have come to the conclusion that most of them are jealous! Yes I said it Jealous. If you have ever had a friend or family member just hang around with you because you make them look so much better? If so you will understand what I just said. Their fear is.......for the first time in their life you might actually look better than they do. I know Im right on this. I have seen it happen so many times.
A great example is my cousin whom is also my best friend who had this surgery done 2 years ago. Her mother begged her not to have this done. Her mother is a very overweight person also. When I asked her mother why she was so against this she told me point blank. I have struggled with my weight my whole life. Its not right that she will go and have surgery done and have me look like the only fat one left. Her mother had the same chance to have this done and wouldn't take it. Now all her mom says is your getting to little...you have to stop losing weight. Your looking BAD! LOL she looks the best I have seen her look since High school ! She is just 20 pounds from the goal her Dr set her to loose and 20 under the goal she set for her self.
So Jerry i do agree with you on all you said. You gotta separate yourself from the negative people in your life. I mean ....think about it. .... I do this on a daily basis to begin with......why wouldn't I do it when I go to have this surgery. Even if its your own family..... There can be love and compassion for them but they don't have to agree with everything your doing with your life. It don't have to be about weightloss. Whether its a type of car you just bought or the house in a certain neighborhood your moving into there is always gonna be some negativity. Just let em stew in there own juice I say. LOL Again....its there problem..........not yours.

now certainly I moved away overseas and then back then to another state...but ANY of my friends I had when I did the WLS...do I even keep in touch with any of them in any meaninful way?
nope...
it makes me sad really to realize that when I got below a certain size they kind of "chilled" towards me...
the WLS to me was about ME and MY body and no one else...but that isn't how anyone seems to look at it!
go figure!

Miss Vickie, I agree with you. And I think they are also jealous because we are able to find the courage and determination to go thru this journey and they are too afraid to try.

I found it amusing that when I was just talking about WLS nearly all my friends and family were fine with it. But when I actually went to see the surgeon and started pushing for a surgery date, their attitudes kinda of shifted. So far they have not given me a hard time about it, but they are definetly not as supportive as they were. But that's okay. I am a very stubborn and independant minded girl...lol. My Dad was to tell me I was too independant for my own good...LOL. I have told anyone who asked me what kind of surgery I am having the truth. I figure when I start "melting" they would figure it out anyway. I think people are just basically opposed to change.

I agree totaly. I cannot get over after all this time I still get the "You had gastric baypass????"
They gasp at first and then realize how silly they are. I just laugh and just change the subject, I feel funny being the center of a new discussion because of the curiosity., which is fine to some degree but sometimes they go way to far.
Ok how am I feeling, my health, do I have more energy, etc., etc., etc. They forget those improtant reasons for going onto this surgery.
Oh well it is important to keep the real important reason for this change in check, and be happy with the new you and your new life. Good job to all of us......
