Default Teenagers

My husband's father passed away and so my husband left today to go be with his mother for a few days. Well, that means that I get full time parent duty (which I normally don't have since my husband is the stay at home parent). Anyway, so picked up both my kids and their friends from school and bused everyone home. My son was going to spend the night at his friend's house, but I had left his sleeping bag and pillow at home and the birthday card (it was his friends birthday). So I tell him we have to run home to get that stuff and I have a few work things to finish up and then I'll run him back. So about an hour later we head out -- he's in one of his "moods" -- well all of a sudden it just spins out of control and we're having this huge fight and he's saying all sorts of awful things to me (you know the "I hate you" "You never loved me" "You're an awful parent" etc...) Of course, at first I'm mad right back and I'm not letting him get out of the car and telling him he won't be going to his friend's house, yadayadayada -- all of a sudden I get ahold of myself and like what the heck???

Anyway he finally calmed down and apologized and we talked and it's all okay again -- but I'm like drained! Geeez!! Boys can be just as emotional as girls!! And teenagers -- I'm just not a good parent with teens -- too illogical and irrational!! I know this is just payback for what I did to my parents as a teen! Give me little kids and I'm real good with young adults -- but teens -- AHHHHH! I'm just at a loss!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'll trade you... my boy is 10 and my girl is 6. Ha Ha Ha Just kidding. You did great!! When he starts with the whole I hate you say something to the effect of "You have a right to your feelings but remember no matter what I will always love you." This shuts mine right down. When I was in that stage my mom would say that and it helped. I never wanted to disappoint her because I knew she loved me no matter what. Also, remember that he also has had a loss and will go through the grieving stages. Allow that. Sorry for your loss and good luck with the teens.

Jill I have a 19 year old girl(drama queen) but a great kid. And a 21 year old boy (OMG) It talks all of may will power and the grace of almight God for me to get through to him some times. I totally understand where your comming from. I truly believe that my sole and most important purpose is to be the best mother I can be to my children, I give it my best try ever day sometimes I succeed sometimes it's hell. But you know what I would not trade my role for anything in the world. Hang in there, this too shall pass.

As a high school teacher, who deals with 125 or more students on a daily basis, I totally agree with the rshel. I love working with them! I really do! They have so much on their plates, they really do. And they totally do not get adults at all. But just like you said, Jill, one day they will be paid back for what they say and do when they have children. Keep that hope/wish in your heart. LOL!

I remember one of my friends told me her pediatrician told her at her daughters 13 yo ck up "get in, sit down, buckle up, and hold on tight" for the next 5+ years. Seems appropriate. To me, the blessing of a teen is just watching them become who they will be (sometimes that's a tad scary too) Just remember - this too shall pass. Im sure you're doing a great job as a mom, dont be so hard on yourself.

Next 5 YEARS!! Make that when they hit about 16 to 21. I think all kids should leave home when there 16 and come back for a visit when there 21. LOL Im joking but man it would be sooooooooo nice. Jill honey, I know your pain. I have been there did that cryed so many tears and then ......its ok. This is what Grey hair comes from honey. Im a true beliver in that one. Yes they have alot on there plates,,,,,,,and I do understand that. But its still no reason for them to speak to you in a different manner than they were raised. And trust me when they appoligse there doing it to get off fast. LOL I was 18 before I tryed my parents. I was to scared of my Dad not to. Get this one........ My son told me about 3 months ago I wasnt hard enough on him when he turned 15 and up???????? So brace your self honey for the next few years. Mine is just now starting to act like he has some sense.

Yall are gonna get me for this one but... you dont have to like your kid. You will always love them but you dont have to like them at dfferent parts in there lives. They dont like us much either until they grow up. LOL

It doesnt take long before they get into the I hate you and you hate me stage! It took us throwing our oldest out before she shaped up! She came back to abide by OUR rules and decided it was time for her to get out on her own at 19. She is now 20 and calls every other day just to talk. I have a Godson that is 9 and my best friend constantly tells me that he is mine once he gets the teen on the end of his age! We are moving with no forwarding address!!! LOLOL. I dont think that I ever want to go through another teen phase!! 2 was more than enough for me! LOLOL Grandkids will be different, spoil the heck out of them and send them packing back to mom and dad! But unfortunately our girl believes that it is one person per body and doesnt think she ever wants to have kids (which is good for now!)
