Default Effect of the surgery on my son.

My son is eight years old and he has suffered from childhood obseity. I felt like such a hypocrite trying to help him with his weight. I come from a family of obese people and My mom used to take care of him after school and she would let him eat mcdonalds like evryday and icecream and junk when ever he wanted it. I tried to get her to stop but she wouldn't. I tried taking him to a dietician but it didn't help when she wouldn't go along with what the dietician was telling us. he was 7 years old and weighed 100lbs and was wearing size 12 boys pants.

when I had my surgery I had to be out of work for 8 weeks and I made arrangements for him to go to daycare after school when I went back to work. I also had enrolled him in hockey and wrestling. plus i have become so much more active and i have dragged my kids along on many weekend adventures.

Since I had my surgery he has lost 27 lbs and gone down to a boys size 8. For the first time since he was 2 he is actually the right weight for his height and age. He looks and feel so good.I'm soproud of him, I feel like he has gotten here because of my surgery . We are all eating more healthy and having so much more exercise. everyone keeps telling him how great he looks which is great for his little ego.

So has anyone else seen the bennifits of your surgery on your family?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

my little girl has slimmed down a bit. im a single mom and i take her with me everywhere i go. we go walking together some nights for up to a hour or so. and she never complains. but her little belly is gone.
when we go to the grocery store, she "reads" the labels LOL! it the funniest thing she has done to date. to se eher turn something around and look for the sugar is cute. and shes only 5!

My son has a concern about his weight and I continuously tell him that working and eating with me will help him. Unfortunately he has a dad who has no problem eating 27 meals out a week. He and his sister have started getting up at 5am with me and we go to the gym and swim for at least 1/2 an hour. I can't wait for the results to show on him. He gets discouraged because it isn't as noticable as mine. Keep up the great work with your son and I will share with mine how it has changed your sons life. maybe he can be encouraged by it. Thanks for the info Tina

I think your pro-active stance is awesome!! You are your son's best bet for a healthier start. I dont know where the concept of feeding your kid to make things better started but I know where it stops - here and now. I think that in time it will have a positive effect on my kids too. My daughter finally got the exercise connection to looking and feeling fitter.

That is great that you have turned your life around with your surgery and now you son is reaping in the benefits too. My hat is off to you. That is great for you and your son. My daughter who is 12 has seen me getting alot of comments from friends and family lately and she tells me how proud she is of me. I have also noticed that she asks alot more questons about what foods are good for you and bad and etc...She has been eating alot more fruit and she seems much more aware of things.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think the best part was that the dietician that he was seeing is at the same Dr.s office that I go to for my surgiacl weightloss program. I recently had my 6month visit about 2 weeks ago. I was seeing the same diettician he had seen when he was going. I couldn't wait to bring in his before and after pictures. SHe was amazed at what a diiference you could see in him. I'm so excited for him maybe more then I am for me because I remember being teased and humiliated for years about my weight because I was always the fat kid. I didn't want him to go through this. I was the girl who didn't go to the prom or have a boyfriend in high school. I missed out on so many things because I was fat and other people were prejudiced about it. I was so afraid of watching him go through that. But I was afraid of coming on to him too strong because i didn't want to make eating a bad thing either. I feel like i have broken the cycle. Not to mention my Mom had a major stokr due to clogged arteries in her neck and she had to have surgery. Since then she has started cooking more healthy and asks me for recipes all the time. And since she cooks for my Dad who is handicap he is eating better. They started soon after my surgery and they have each lost 31lbs. I'm so excited about my family being more healthy.

Kenyar I think that it's really cute that your daughter is reading labels. My son just asks me about which things are a better choice.

Oh and by the way that dietician asked if she could share my story with other bypass patients who have kids with weight problems. I said of coarse so she has ben showing off my son.

I am also hoping my surgery will ultimately have a good result for my daughter. She is 6 and is approx 10 to 15 lbs overweight. My biggest problem is my husband who will give her anything she wants to each at whichever time it may be...ice cream at 9pm instead of just going to bed, etc. My husband did ask me the other day if I would be able to have ice cream and I told him no. He then told me not to buy it anymore. So that did make me feel pretty good. Anyways keep up the great work and I am 22 days away from being on the losing bench...I can't wait! Talk to you soon.

your story is such a great example of how we affect our childrens lives and what an inspiration you and your son can be to others who are facing some of the same challenges you have faced. Having been overweight since about age 12 I can sure relate.

Kudos to you all with your work on kids.
As the saying goes, strike the iron while hot.
Also, as you all know, kids react better when they see a good example, not just be told. So, I can see your surgery is saving not only your life, but another, and more than that.
