Poopoo I nhave heard the same thing so many times too. Sometimes I even feellike I shouldve tried harder, but then I remember that I DID try,for years and years, and I planned this for over a year before I went to a surg. and it IS the hardest thing Ive done in my life...... Do I regret it?? NO WAY,not even once,I needed the help the surg. and the support gave, and still gives me. Being part of this site lets u know that it was not easy for any of us and you are not at all taking a easy way out. People do not understand it unless they take the time to inquire with us about it ,so let the people that do not take the time to inquire say what they will, because we all know better........ Kathy

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I watched a movie not to long ago and a man made a comment about a woman losing weight and said oh she must have done the easy way through gastric bypass. I am sorry but whoever thinks this is easy need to try it for one day. Some people, actually a lot of people think that once you have the surgery that it just comes off and you do nothing at all to help it. They believe we just sit here all day and the weight just melt off of us. Even when they do realize it they choose to ignore it. It's a really sad place to be in but don't even worry about it. The way I look at it, if you have nothing nice to say about me or my decision you are not worth my time or effort. You made this decision for you.

Wow....are we all going through this same issue with family and friends right now? What ever happened to being happy for someone who is doing something good for themselves? I COMPLETELY understand how you feel, and I wanted to commend you for not letting her rude comment "slide". You should be proud of your hard work and this decision.

Don't know if this means anything to you or not BUT... I am a Non-OP, AND as far as I'm concerned we're all following the same basic eating plan (except I'm REAL rigid about carbs & focus on proteins--which a lot of y'all do too). We're doing the same work. The only difference is that you physically have a tool I don't. Even that tool won't work though--if you don't work it right! So I don't feel like you guys have it so easy and I have it so hard, blah, blah. As far as I see--it's about the same.

3 cheers for what Kenya and Doc said. You never CAN change anyone else's attitude/thinking. If they are hurting you and won't see reason, at some point it's healthiest to "walk on by" and let what they say roll off! You have LOTS of love and support here!!!

XOXO
Mya

I am having the same problem with my sister. She never mentions the surgery or my weight loss at all. She has never said anything about how much weight I have lost. If she is in the room and the topic comes up, she will quickly change the subject or get up and leave the room.

I think it mostly stems from jealousy. She has never been heavy, so it is not like she wishes she had the surgery, but I think she was happy in her position as the "thin sister". I think my weight loss kind of threatens her position in our family and friends. She doesn't want me to somehow get thinner than her.

It hurts my feelings and it has made things very uncomfortable when we are together, but I am not going to apologize for trying to get healthier and happier.

I hope this doesn't ruin our relationship forever, but I'm certainly not going to put the weight back on to soothe her feelings. I am hoping time will show her that the family and the world are big enough for two thin sisters to exist within.

Poopoo, if there is only ONE thing I can say I have benefitted from after this surgery that is not weight related it is that I have come to a place in my life where I refuse to let people put me down anymore, I never had this before. Now, I have decided that some people are "poison" and I avoid them like they were literally poison. A lot of this journey is mental as we all know, and we dont need mentally poisonous people tripping us up along the way.
