Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I am sorry that your hubby is not very understanding right now, but hopefully he will come around and realize that you have tried so hard in the past to be healthier and happier and now you are ready to make a drastic change in your lifestyle in order to acheive it. You will not fail! No one here has failed yet. I like the suggestion of him signing on here and reading about everyones journey. However, no matter what, you will have all of our support.

He does sound like he doesn't completely understand and he is afraid for you. As everyone suggested, maybe you should take him to some of your meetings and maybe doctors appointments. This can be very hard on families. I had to have my mom watch the show Big Medicine to put her mind at ease. Just remember you are strong. You made this big step and you will follow through with it, even if it's just to prove him wrong. We are all here for you.

We've talked more since then, and he has calmed down some. I just cannot convince him that I NEED A LIFELONG CHANGE- I WANT A LIFELONG CHANGE- I WELCOME A LIFELONG CHANGE! He also seems caught up with statistics from when the bypass was a fairly new procedure, and done differently with more complications and higher mortality. I can't get him to meetings with me- he travels A LOT! I have saved a bunch of info on both procedures for him to read, but he has not yet done so. I just can't wait until HE is ready. I AM READY! I feel selfish proceeding without him- but it's time for me to be selfish and take control of my own life. Hopefully he'll come around. Thanks for the support!

I agree that this is important for you to get counseling on and to work thru your issues (spouse, support, fears, past diet hx). Let's think rationally for a moment - if all of us had succeeded at dieting, we wouldnt be on this site would we? The truth of the matter is, it's hard no matter how you do it! The more support you have the better, but this board has been the most awesome form of support I have ever had. Hope things improve for you -- hugs! --

My husband was against the surgery also. I was going to have the surgery a few years back but the lady at the hospitol scared him and me so bad and she wanted me to try a nutritionist first. So for over a year I went to this nutritionist and only lost around 40 pounds and then I had lots of health problems and I put it all back on with in a few months, so then I tryed another nutritionist and only managed to lose a few pounds. I listened to everything she said and I followed her plan faithfully and meanwhile my daughter was going threw everything for the gastric bypass and she told us a month before the surgery and boy were my husband & I scared for her just the fact that we heard all those terrible things. So my husband & I were there when she had her surgery and my husband and I were worried alot for her. Well when we saw her after surgery, I could not beleive my eyes how wonderful she looked after surgery and then I saw her a little over a week after surgery and my sons had no idea that she had the surgery. My daughter wanted to keep it a secret for a while. So we told my sons a month after and they only said they just were wondering why she ate so little. My sons are very proud of their sister for doing the surgery. Well that made up my mind and I told my husband that I want the surgery so I can get my health back again and finaaly do some living. Well he was against it at the beginning becasue he was so scared of losing me and then he had to come up with some excuses like, it might not work for me becasue I have tried every diet that there is out there. My husband was never rude about it he was just so scared of losing me. So I did take him along with one of my meetings and that was his turnaround about the surgery. You know my husband had so many questions and they all talked to him to make him understand it all. He had a better understanding of things. What he liked is that he talked to people who had the surgery and how it worked for them and the expierences they went threw. I would say take your husband to one of the meetings and I think he will get a better understanding of it all. Like some of the people at the meeting heard terrible things to, but it was found out that those people had heart and other problems before they had the surgery. I would more an likely have died sooner anyway becasue I was so overweight and could not hardly do anything anymore. I did this surgery for myself and for getting my life back and no one was going to stop me from having the gastric bypass. Well, you cannot hardly believe I have the same husband a few months ago who was so scared of the surgery for me. He is so proud of me and I think it has made our marriage stronger. He says he loved me no matter what size but I sure can tell that he likes to put his arms around me and is thrilled that he can fold his wrists when he gives me a hug. He keeps telling me that I feel so much thinner to him and you can tell that he is thrilled about it. He tells people how much I lost and you can tell when he tells people that he is soooo proud of the weight I lost. I did look at the lap band and the gastric bypass and I weight all the pros and cons and I am so happy I did the gastric bypass. I would do it over in a heartbeat. But you have to do what is right for you.
Good luck and Hubby will come around.

If he needs time to read the info you have, put it in the bathroom on the counter or the back of the toilet, "reading material" for him in there!!lol
