Default Am I doing this right?

I had RNY on Dec 4, 2007.....and have only lost 60 pounds. I plateau a lot even though I have followed the docs orders to a T. My starting weight was 235. I just feel like Im messing something up.
I try to eat and drink, but I know that Im not getting the full amount in of either. I walk on the treadmill everyday for at least 30 mins, sometimes longer, but my minimum is 30 mins. My 3 month labs came back and they were fine..."excellent" as my surgeons nurse said.
My husband comes home from Iraq in 65 days and I would like to be very close to goal by then, but I dont think I will be since I keep getting stuck.
Any insight would be appreciated!
Sharon

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I have not had surgery yet but from reading all the posts and posting several times a day with them I have learned that they plateau too. They stress getting your protein in and making sure you get all your water. Fluid seems to be very important. As for your exercise routine, I would amp it up a little. Your body gets used to what your doing and stops gaining the benefits. Instead of 30 mins do 45 or 1hour. Also on the treadmill, do interval training this seems to amp up the calorie burn. Cardio is calorie burning, strength training is fat burning. Maybe you should add some strength training every other day cause muscles need time to rebuild. Essentially what you do in strength training is you're "tearing" your muscles to build them=fat burn Good luck. I hope this helped . I am sure the other ladies will post soon

Sharon:

You are doing fine. I average about 10 to 15 per month. Keep in mind that we all loose very differently and you cannot compare yourself to others on this journey. When you compare yourself to another there are factors that you are not considering. Be confident in the fact that you are doing everything you are supposed to do and the tool is working for you. Focus on the improved health.

The *average* losing curve is, half of your excess weight in the first 6 months...yup, the first six months, then half of the next half, in other words, one quarter of your excess weight in the second 6 months, and the last quarter between one to two years out.

Soooo, taking a look at your ticker, to date, at two and a half months out of surgery, you already have lost over 50% of your excess weight. That means you are waaaaay ahead of the curve, no wonder your dr and his support staff say excellent!!
I hate to have to point this out to you, but the goal you have up in your profile, of reaching goal in May of this year, is expecting way too much, that's less than 6 months from your surgery. December of this year, one year out of surgery is more realistic.

I am sorry, but wanting to reach goal by the time your DH comes home in two and a half months is unrealistic. Just be happy with what you've been able to lose up to now, and will be able to lose up till then, which, realistically speaking will probably anothe 20 to 30 lbs at most, more likely somewhere around 15-20lbs by then. Your own eyes won't be telling you the difference, I bet, as that is how it is for just about everyone, but I'm sure other people around you are noticing your weight loss, and of course, your DH will be able to see it pronto, the moment he sees you, and I'm sure he'll be very happy with what he sees, even if you've still got a number of lbs left till you reach goal.

It took you years and years to arrive to the point where you chose surgical intervention, the weight is not going to come off in a day or two. Nor will it come off in one smooth fell swoop, it comes off in humps and bumps.
Since you're following your surgeons instruction, don't worry about something being wrong, your losing curve says that you are doing everything right.

Sharon Hun Please Dont Mind Me Saying This, Lol. Ok Are You Kidding Me You Had Your Surgery In Dec And Want To Already Reach Goal By The Time You Dh Comes Home. Hun It Is Not Healthy To Rush The Process And As Time Goes On The Wt Loss Will Slow Down A Bit. We Didnt Gain This Wt Over Nite So There Is No Way We Will Loose It Over Nite.

Hun Just Take It Day By Day And Be Patient, A Fast Wt Loss Will Be Very Unhealthy For You. You Dh Will Be Happy When He Comes Home And Even See's How You Look Now I Bet You Look Great. So Keep Up The Good Work And Just Be Patient And You Will Get There

You have lost 60 lbs in 2 1/2 months and you're disappointed?!?!?!?!? I think you've done an amazing job and you should be proud of yourself! And it's ok if you're not at your goal when your hubby comes home. He's going to be so excited to see you and the 'new' you that he won't care if you've hit that 'magic' number. Just be proud of yourself and keep up the good work! And really try (even thought I know most days it feels impossible) to get all your protein and liquids in. Good luck!

I want to apologize if I sounded whiney..it wasnt my intention.

My surgeon never told me about the rate of weight loss as you have doc. I guess I am ahead of the curve and should be prooud of what I have done to this point.
Just nervous that when I see my doc next week there is going to be some sort of disappointment. Sounds crazy huh?
Thanks ladies for all your input and support!

No need to apologize, it's quite normal to freak out or be scared, however long or short out form your surgery, while you are still in the losing stage, and have not leveled out around your goal point.
There are plenty of threads, most in Coffee Talk and in Stupid Questions, about stalls and the frustrations that everyone experiences because of them.
