Default Can I advance my diet a little tonight?

I am 5 days postop and have been on the post of liquid diet. I have broth, water, Special K water, my liquid protein shots and for the last 2 days have been able to process my Muscle Milk Light protein shake (8 ozs throughout the day) and of course water.

I would like to try a little pudding or cream soup tonight. According to my paperwork I can add thinned hot cereal, light yogart, pudding, sugar free custard, skim milk and cream soups for week 2. Thursday would be the start of week 2, of course it is now Tuesday.

What do you think? and if I do try a little soup or pudding...no more then 1 oz?? or how do you begin eating??? I know that should be under stupid questions. My pouch is still a 1 oz pouch, so just eat a little to get to the ounce and call it quits?

thanks for the help.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I posted this on the diet board as well.

Just curious if I could try a little creamed soup or sugar free pudding tonight. I'm 5 days out and have been tolerating my liquids, broth and finally some protein shake (made with water). I really want to "taste" something and am soooo sick of liquids.

If I do try some pudding or creamed soup....how much? 1 oz?

thanks for the help.

I remember getting excited about cream of ckn soup!!! I'm a stickler for following your docs rules, def go very slow. Are you bored or hungry? If you're hungry, is it real hunger or head hunger? These are demons you might as well learn to recognize now and defeat. I know it's hard early out, but you can do this Good luck!

I would stick to what your supposed to do. If you start advancing now, you might try to start advancing in another stage, and you might get sick, etc etc.

Just be patient and work with your new tool.

well, its head hunger in the sense that I just dread one more sip of broth. So, its funny, I deal with head hunger great when I am actually eating food! I can ward it off with no problems. I think I am so sick of liquids and a little upset (I guess I'll be honest) that I just can't taste any food.

I am excited about my surgery, but also angry on the flip side that I feel like a prisoner traped with a strap around her mouth and someone saying.... sorry, you can't chew anything or taste anything...just drink. I really feel that I wouldn't be so anxious for "texture" if I would not have had to do the pre surgery liquid diet. It would have been better for me to do a 3 day liquid diet instead of a week. I know the week long liquids is a drop in the hat to some and I don't mean to whine.

I think I'm just mad...mad that I can't taste anything. By the time I drink my broth, its cold and I've had to reheat it 4 times. I only have 3-4 ounces of protein drink at a time so I don't over do it in a 30-40 minutes session. I like water...but come on, I'm tired of water as food.

So, here's my decision. I'm going to to just go with the liquids, I'm not going to do anything without the dieticians approval and I'm going to tell her how I feel right now. I know in 2 more days I can add some taste and texture back in my life.

Please don't get me wrong. I am committed to this process. I've worked hard to get here and I knew that food would not or could not be a "feel good" item in my life. I am very suprised by my anger towards the liquids, but then again, I was angry about it on the liquid diet. I feel that on the liquid diet I have lost control onfthis process and that when I am allowed pudding, soup and cream of wheat, at least I can control what I would like to taste. KWIM???

so....on liquids I stay. Sorry this is so long.

All your thoughts are quite normal, what everyone goes through at your stage.
Check out the posts from everyone when they were only a week or two out from surgery. Even those who are sailinng smooth now, were hitting rough waters at that time.
Good for you in deciding to follow your surgeon and dietician's instructions, as however hard it is, that's the best and the shortest way to success.

We're all rootin' 'n' tootin' for you.
