Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My question is about stairs. Did you have any trouble walking upstairs after your surgery and you were released from the hospital. This is a concern because our bedroom and bathroom are on the second floor and the kitchen and livingroom are on the 1st floor. Did you have any problems getting up stairs or should I try to stay someplace all one level for a week after surgery?

Height: | I remember going up our stairs very slowly once I got home from the hospital, but I would recommend listening to your bodies signals since not everyone has the same experience with healing and what their bodies can tolerate. One thing that helped me was that I didn't have to deal with a drainage tube. Good luck with everything and keep us posted. Janae |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I also didnt have drainage tubes...i jsut had my lap incisions covered with tape! THEY healed awesome you can barely see the lines 1 year later! I dont know all the reasons of the tubes but they allow stuff to weep and ooze from the incisions as it heals. MANY surgeons use them and im thankful mine didnt. I hear they hurt until they come out a tiny a bit. HOPE that helps some im sure someone that had them will tell you more

| Hi Jessica, I found that the steps were not that big of a deal, but I avoided them the first few days I was home. When I did use them I only did once or twice a day. You will find that after a week, you will feel a little bit better and they are not so bad. Yes listen to your body, you will know what you can tolerate. I had a drainage tube my first week home. It was uncomfortable enough so that it was hard to lay on my side to sleep and move around. It come out in one week. It just helped the yucky stuff come out... Your surgeon should explain to you what to expect. They all have their own ways of doing things. Good Luck.... ROBBIN

| WLS Master Guru | I was fine with the steps. My livingroom and kitchen also are on the first floor, and to use the bathroom i have to go either up or down 14 steps. I am sure I took it slowly, but was able to do it several times a day as needed. I had a drain, but it was removed before I left the hospital. S |

| Guru In Training | I had a drainage tube, only in the hospital. They were connected to round plastic little jugs with lids that drained my Lapro sites. They were not a bother, I actually felt like a "man" for 3 days, haha because they felt like 'testicals" and they took out the draingae tube and there was no pain, taking them out. The tubes were fairly long too, I made the nurse show me how long they were. But I do have a high tolerance of pain, but it really was no problem. Peggy/Fargo

| Your funny, but I never heard of the drainage tub being so low. Mine was up on my left side. Again how different each medical facility is on how theey're procedures are. It is interesting to hear about them. ROBBIN
