Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have researched this and can't seem to get a straight answer. Why can't we drink before, during, or after a meal. Can someone give details? Is it that the water will fill us up and not the food? (And if that's the case after you stop losing weight wouldn't you want to drink more to help you eat less??)

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I'm not sure about the before, but you don't want to drink during and after because you will wash the food out of your pouch and you'll get hungry again. We need to learn what full feels like, and also what normal hunger feels like so we're defeating these purposes if we drink too soon. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I agree with the other ladies.......I was told that it is good not to drink afterwards due to it washing out the food out of your pouch and then you get hungry quicker and I also think we may not absorb enough vitamins and etc.. when it washed thru. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I think the not drinking before may pertain to those that are not very far out from surgery. Since we need to get in more protein you need the pouch to be empty so you can get in all you need. I read a thread a few months ago that talked about water loading prior to eating for those that are over a year out or so in order to not eat as much since the pouch has relaxed and will let you eat more than you need to sometimes. But the drinking after definelty is keep you from washing your food thru. You also have to remember to not drink so much after your vitamins too since you can wash them thru quicker and keep them from absorbing. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | im confused by the question lol. we all get different instruction but ive never heard of not drinking water. i mean i was told not to drink (anything) 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating. it wasnt water specific though. in terms of not drinking while you eat; it pushes the food thru which will make you eat more or hungrier sooner. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | OK- so about the malabsorption- I get we don't get all the nutrients and vitamins. But does that mean if we eat like 1000 calories we are really only absorbing less- like just for example 800.
