Default Stevia--natural herb sweetener

Instead of artifial sweeteners, I use a natural product called Stevia. Details are at The Stevia Story: all about the herb that's sweeter than sugar . It's supposedly abou 3 times sweeter than sugar, so very little is needed. I buy it at Trader Joes in the US. It comes in individual small packets or a larger bottle for cooking. I use the packets for my morning coffee or to add to my daily oatmeal. It would probably work well for iced tea also, although I don't use sweeteners in the iced tea I drink.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

It does work great in iced tea! If artificial sweetners give you gas or worse, Stevia is not supposed to have this effect on you!

My nutritionist said that Stevia is a carcinogen ( cancer causing agent) and that it was removed from the shelves for several years.

I've never heard that and it's mentioned monthly at my support groups. Nurses are there too, and I don't think the doc said anything in that regard on this site or another where I mentioned it. Do some research or ask your nutritionist for facts on this. There are no cautionary statments on the packaging either.

I do believe the Indians used stevia for a long long time, and I would ask where your NUT got her info from. Stevia is a natural plant ask her about the cancer effects of sweet and low...

I don't think there's any need to take a demeaning tone regarding someone else's post or "expert". That's why this is such a nice place. People don't get criticized or made to feel stupid.

About my response to Stevia...

You know I've had a really mixed reaction to it PERSONALLY. After I'd been using Sucralose/Splenda, I attempted to switch cold turkey to Stevia. I was very receptive and excited. Oddly enough, I couldn't taste it! It didn't seem as if it sweetened particularly well on it's own. I tried it repeatedly, using twice the amounts recommented and I just wasn't "getting" it!!!

Then one day by accident I stirred my tea with a spoon that had a little bit of sugar residue on it. WOE!!! All that sweetness came rushing out and smashed into my tongue. So now I use a few grains of sugar and 3/4 the recommended amt of Stevia. Strange solution--but it works for me.

XOXO
Mya

I like Stevia better than Splenda. My nut recommended it to me when I mentioned that Splenda was just too sweet tasting for me.

Thumbs up Stevia--natural herb sweetener

I heard about Stevia at a support group meeting from a school teacher. It's a natural herb sweetener, sweeter than sugar, according to http://www.stevia.net/ which has more information on it. I got mine at Trader Joes. You only need a little, as it's supposedly 3 times sweeter than sugar. it comes in indivdual packets smaller than Equal or other substitues (100 packets per bos) or in a larger bottle that you can spoon out for cooking. I use it in coffee and oatmeal on a daily basis. I understand it also comes in a liquid form, and only a drop or two is needed for coffee or tea. Haven't tried the liquid form, nor have I seen it sold locally.

We have it at my locally owned organic grocery store. I use it and really like it....my nut said it was all natural and there werent any cancer causing side effects that she could find.
I do keep splenda on hand just in case though.

I have had the liquid stevia, Sunrider products used to sell it. It is good and you really dont need to use much, just a drop or two.
