Unhappy Eating is hard!

Hello everyone

I had my bypass surgery last week (17 March) and all went well and I came home on Friday (21 March). How were other people feeling after the surgery? I am unsure that I am eating right as I have pain in my stomach and I cant decide if it is from the wound or from eating. I am also having difficulty drinking enough and don't seem to be passing much water, and don't get me started on 'number 2's!' they seem non-existent! Am expecting too much 1 week post-op? I feel like I'm never going to enjoy a meal again. My husband had a lovely tuna salad for tea and I had a few teaspoons of mashed broccilli and fish (yum). How long was it until people found their insides calmed down and they began to feel well again?
I know I sound like I'm moaning and believe me I'm thrilled I had the surgery but am fed up of not feeling 100%.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I had to loss weight 3 months before surgery and that was so hard becasue I had to cook for my husband and then all the veg. I wanted and only 3 or 4 oz. of meat a day for me. I got very creative with my food at that stage. Then all my protein drinks and soups I could eat. I was determined to do it and I lost 36 pounds before surgery. The doctors said ti was just enough for a safe surgery for me. Then after surgery, wow was it hard for me to eat, I hated the taste of food and did not even like to see or smell food. My husband ate many tv dinners and foods that were easy to prepare for him. You could have put on front of me my most favorite meal and it could just sit there and I would not be hungry for anything. I had to force myself to get in my water and proteins. But now that I am 6 1/2 months out of surgery I am beginning to really enjoy food again and I am trying to make my favorite foods that I like the way I can eat them.My daughter came up with the most delicious pancakes. I came up with date bars but I am still in the stage of trying to improve the date bars, so that they are lower in carbs and higher in protein. Now I want to expeierment with kneifla, it is a german dish. The old way it is made with flour, egg and water. You mix this until hard enough to cut little sections off and put into water and boil it off and then once it is boiled off you strain them off the water and put them into a frying pan and add sourkraut and weiners and fry all together. I am so hungry for them and I want to try to revise them with protein powders if I can. My mom made egg drop soup out of my protein powders and wheat flour and ohhhh was that ever good and hardly no carbs and it had protein in it. So that is what I am doing now is revising recipes so that I can enjoy what the rest are eating in my family. What makes it so nice my family is helping me to do that and they are so interested in that. Between my daughter and family we are coming up with some really great recipes.
But you just had your surgery and you need time for the pouch to heal and once it does food will become more appealing to you and you will want to experiement with foods. So do not feel like you are deprived of foods it just will be made a different way and you will enjoy just what the rest of the people are enjoying. In fact I got my husband eating alot of my foods and he is enjoying them and is healthy for him too.

You are still VERY ealry out. It will get easier to drink, but it takes a few weeks. Just do the best you can, sipping small amounts basically ALL day long! You're peeing a lot because they loaded you with IV fluids while you were in the hosp. The pain will start to ease up a bit every day. I'm surprised you can eat tuna so early out, but that's great! Just rest when you can, walk when you can and sip,sip,sip...

You are where we all were about 1 week out. Give it time, concentrate on fluids, then as you progress, protein. It's hard not to tear up in the first few weeks when you see someone else eating, weather you actually are hungry or not...you have so many thoughts going through your head...
It will all pass and by 6 - 8 weeks you'll be pretty much normal again, just smaller portions. Don't think you'll never be able to enjoy food again, you will, get that out of your head. Concentrate on the steps it takes to get there. Fluids, protein, sip, sip, sip...everything follows in time. And always ask if/when you have more questions as each step comes up. Good luck!

Me too... I am still trying to get enough fluid in! its been 2 weeks. I tried a little bit of tuna the other day and OMG the pain! no dumping or anything, but real life pain, but I have had no probs with mince etc.
Take it easy on yourself, and like the others have said, fluids first, then proteins etc. I was still on very pureed food in that first week, still on soft stuff but it also includes cruskits that are very easily chewed into mash.
Be easy with your pouch and it should be easy with you.
best wishes *HUGS* you will be fine!

It takes a while to feel like yourself again~~~I was able to go back to work at 5 weeks out and do housework, etc at about 7 weeks. I was on full liquids for ~3 weeks then puree then soft and finally real food about Thanksgiving. Still cant handle tuna - too strong. Just sip sip sip and take good care of you

((((((HUGS))))) Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench.

Yes, you are at the time when everything is still pretty hard, and you have second and third and fourth thoughts about what you've done.
It takes a while--for your insides to heal completely and adjust the functions, 3-4 months-- so, baby steps, small sips, keeping yourself hydrated is the first thing on your agenda right now.

((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Smile Thanks Everyone

Thank you for your kind words of support, it was lovely to log on the website when I got up this morning and see all your replies! Yes it appears I am definately too impatient and can't expect miracles after 1 week! Its just you don't have anyone to compare things with and wonder if everything is as it should be. I will keep going and give myself chance to heal!
Have a good day everybody.
