Default Lite bread Verses Grain Bread ?

Ok I have a question on bread types. I have been checking for bread that is low carb and that is impossible, there is nothing that is under 18 carbs per slice. Now my question is that there are lite breads and 7 or 12 grain breads that have the same amount of carbs but the calories are much lower on the lite breads. My question is which is better to eat the grain breads or the lite grain breads or lite diet wheat bread that I have found and I can eat two slices verses one slice but at the same time the two slices are smaller slices compared to the grain breads. So I am asking for your opinion which is better to eat.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

The more highly refined the carbs, the less healthy they are. As a general rule, the wheat bread will be a better food choice. Have you tried Wasa bread? It's a light, low-carb alternative. You can usually find it with the Rye-Krisp. Comes in different flavors, really low in carbs, crunchy. Also I've found that Melba toast in its varieties is good instead of bread too.

Diana...check the protein in the bread. You may find the better grain breads have more protein per slice. (although some lite breads, with the "enriched flour" may actually have similar protein totals) Also check the fiber. Whole grain breads have a higher fiber content. I really don't think, considering the other nutrients available in a whole grain bread, the calories should count SO much. You will *only* be eating one slice at a time, right? I sure can't take more volume than one slice of any bread.

IMO, nutrition is the ONLY reason to choose a bread...otherwise it is wasted carbs (read: empty calories) like chips or cookies.

I had always went to the whole grain breads after my RNY, as my whole family was easy to change the type of breads used. They loved it.
I usually eat 2 slices of bread, if I am having a peanut butter sandwich, now that is the whole meal for me. I would rather have two very thin slices, so I can get more protein in my meal. When we go out to eat, I usually will eat with a fork, I order a hamb. without the bun, or remove it. Maybe will have one slice of the bun, if the cheese is all melted onto one side of it.
My problem now, is that bread at my house gets moldy, before its ate up. My new DH, only will eat white bread, no matter what, he says I can get my own bread to eat, lol So I will buy the smallest loaf I can find, and freeze most of it. I take out my slices out of the freezer, and will either let them thaw out, or if in a hurry will put it in the microwave for a few seconds so I can make my sandwich and get on with what I am doing at the time.

Unfortunetely garlic toast just doesn't taste as good to me, when its the whole grain breads. (personnal choice). If I make a spagetti meal, I have the sauce, with the meat in it, and next to no noodles. But I do like my garlic toast with other breads.
Perfessor likes the flat breads, I do too, if its not gonna be used as a sandwich. Then its alittle to crunchy / messy for me to deal with.

You are doing so well looking at the ingredients in foods. I am proud of you. I take hours to go grocery shopping still, as I want to look at all the no sugar added new products that are really coming out. Never used to read a label.
Have to laugh, couple weeks ago, there was a coupon for post-tarts. I haven't had one for years...... and when I looked at the box, and it said over 200 calories for just one of those things, I told my new DH, he will have to eat them, I wont touch something that small with such high calories. I would rather eat something with less calories for me. I thought they might sound sort of good, till I did that box label reading..... They are sitting in the cupboard still 2 weeks later, unopened, even my DH hasn't gotten into them yet. He would eat for sure at least 4-6 of those at a time anyway. That would be a full days calories or close to for me.....not worth it. Now there are some days, that I do consume foods that are higher in calories then I would like, especially when we go out to eat. So I am still human, and will still on occasion go for it, knowing its not the best choice to make..... Sorry for getting off track on your simple question. I tend to talk alot...lol

As everyone celebrates their personnal WOW's I am celebrating my new DH, for our first wedding anniversary. That was truly a WOW day for me.

Thank you all for the response and gives me an idea of what to do. I already have eaten the dried breads and they are good but I want some softer breads some times. This afternoon I used one slice of 7 grain bread and then I mixed up peanut butter with walton farms pancake syrup together. I use to use karo syrup with peanutbutter before surgery, but karo is so high in carbs and then I tried the walton farms syrup and that is good tasting. Walton farm products have no carbs, no calories, or I should say no of nothing. zero on everything. So I only benifited from the peanutbuuter and got the flavor from the syrup. Then I took the bread and cut it into four pieces and smeared brumbel and brown marg. on the bread and then put on top of that the peanutbutter mixture. That was so good and at the same time healthy. I can only eat one slice of bread and then I am full. But I only eat bread about 2 to 3 times a week. I do not want to make a habit of it yet, maybe once I have all my weight off and to maintain but for now only 2 to 3 times a week is enough for me.
Lori, you do not have to worry about getting of track when you post becasue I do the exact same thing. I love reading your posts and I can learn so much from you since you have maintained your weight for so long and doing a terrific job. Thank you all again for your responeses.

I just dont do well with bread at all...even toasted, I get that horrible clump feeling in my pouch. I started using the low carb tortilla wheat warps and do just fine with those, granted I only eat a few bites of it before I am tearing it apart and eating the inside.

I personally would go with the 7 grain bread and eat only one slice. When I eat a sandwich it is only half a sandwich and I am done. Before it would be the whole thing and chips or something. Depending on what it was like egg salad I might have even eaten two. Not now, thank you pouchy!

I go for the whole grains, more protein in them, I really like the Ezekiel breads, hard to find but Whole Foods and Vons carries them. I have only one slice, cant fit more than that, they also make hamburger buns and hot dog buns too.
