Unhappy I'm new and need help, please!!!!

Hello everyone,
I just found this website about a week ago. Let me just say that all of you are so amazing! I'm been spending alot of time reading the posts and I'm so happy that I've found this place.
I'll give you alittle background on myself. I'm Chrissy and I'm 26 years old. I'm happily married with 2 beautiful children. I've struggled with my weight all my life and on August 7th, 2008 I had my gastric bypass surgery. I'm lost 19 pounds in 4 weeks. I had a check up on Tuesday and I was advanced to stage 3 foods. This include eggs, tuna, chicken, turkey, cheese, seafood and a few other things I can't remember right now. So I came home from my appointment very excited to have some new foods to try... It was horrible, after 2 bites of plain shrimp (with some spray butter) I charged into the bathroom and "called ralph on the big white phone" needless to say, I didn't enjoy that, so I thought i'll just stick to liquids for the rest of the evening. Well, nothing would stay down, not even water. I did proceed to suck on sugar free ice pops and they stayed down. The next day, i decided to try a scrambled egg. Same reaction as Tuesday, only it was white foam and liquid. So I waited a half an hour and attempted to sip some water, bad idea. so once again, I sucked an ice pop and i could keep it down. Now everytime I eat, i feel horrible. I wait the half an hour and try to sip water, it makes me feel worse. Is this normal? I know that I'm only one month post op, but why is my body reacting this way? I really hope you guys can offer some advice, words of wisdom and some inspiration. Thank you for listening to me and have a blessed day!

Chrissy

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

could be a stricture...you should contact your surgeon and have them check it out.

Progress to mushy foods and introduct things slowly. If you can mash it with a fork, then eat it. (not pureed, just softer foods that break down easily). I didn't attempt shrimp for a while....I can eat it now. Eggs didn't sit well until about 3 months.....and keep in mind, something that doesn't sit well today may sit PERFECTLY next week...!

Don't give up...it's really all about getting a routine down and adding new foods slowly...

Congrats on your surgery and welcome aboard!

I agree with Kath, it sounds like a stricture. This is pretty common. Remember to chew very, very slowly. This had been a problem of mine early out.

Welcome to the losers bench!

I can sooo relate to what you're saying. I feel like I'm reliving my experience. All I can say is it will pass. Be patient. If something doesn't agree just stay away from it. Try and get your liquids in even though it may be hard. I too did the Popsicle thing. Now 4 months out and 93 lbs later I feel pretty good. There are still days that things may not agree with me but when that happens I just go back to my liquids. Believe my I do what I can to avoid the toilet at all cost. lol My experience is if something doesn't go down well I just stay away from foods the rest of the night, it seems to make it worse if I keep trying to find something that works. Keep your chin up it will get better. Good luck.

Your situation sounds a lot like mine..definitely call your surgeon and tell him/her what you are experiencing. Mine ws a stricture that was successfully dilated, and made such a difference. Call your surgeon tomorrow and WELCOME to this amazing board! Good luck on your journey.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench.

Call your surgeon ASAP. At the stage you are, make sure you keep your surgeon in the loop when you can't keep down your food.
(((((HUGS)))) Hope you feel better soon, and may your journey go well.

I agree with everyone, it sounds like a stricture. As your pouch heals it wants to close that hole that the surgeon made at the bottom of the pouch. Your body knows that the hole is not natural and tries to fix it. It's a simple procedure to dialte the hole again, but your surgeon needs to know about it.

If it's not a stricture then you are probably: 1. eating too fast, 2. not chewing enough. The one thing you described is what a lot of us call "foamies" where the saliva turns into bubbly foam, and it's usually caused by eating too fast and not chewing. At this stage you have to chew things until they are almost liquid.

A lot of the "new" foods you are trying will not sit well in your pouch. This is the time where you will start learning to listen to your pouch. I remember taking one bite and chewing, and chewing, and chewing and paying attention to the feeling in my pouch. If I had the slightest feeling of nausea or pouch was grumbling then I would spit out what I was trying to eat and get something that I knew was safe.

Also the feeling of "full" would happen suddenly. I would actually have the next bite in my mouth when pouch would give me a feeling of "if you swallow that bite you are going to pay, big time" and I would spit it out and push my plate away.

This period was the most difficult, but also most rewarding. You will find out that you CAN eat food again, you will learn to love good food, and the pounds will swoop away like never before (or after). Good Luck!
