Question Why am I still eating this way?

Hi. I am 6 weeks out of RNY surgery and I haven't lost any weight in almost two weeks. I know it is because I am eating junk food all the time and I haven't been exercising. I tell myself each day that I need to stop but I don't know what my problem is. I feel so dumb and ashamed.
Is there anyone out there that has maybe gone through this and can give me some advice to break this bad habit? I want to succeed at this.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

You are 6 weeks post op and you feel like eating foods you shouldn't??? No way no how could I have done that but why are you doing this is the issue here. You need to really focus on why you had this surgery. For me it was to get healthy again, to get off of meds and to be able to enjoy life. Being overweight and unhealthy was just NOT an obtion for me anymore. Junk food is NOT worth your life. You have a new tool please start using it. You are worth a new life and start...please give work harder at it.

Kim,
You are so right. I need to start taking this seriously because I am worth a new start. Somewhere along the line I lost focus.I'm going to get it back! I am going to do it.

Good for you. We can help you through this. Also at this stage a lot of us stalled 6 -8 weeks out so do not let this discourage you. YOU ARE WORTH A NEW LIFE. Tomorrow is a new day...start fresh. Good luck to you.

yeah i dont see how its even possible. i didnt want to eat at all at 6 weeks and didnt DARE eat anything that wasnt on the list. all i can do is offer support. why do you feel like you "need" this stuff? what kind of stuff is it? why is it even in the house? think about this, maybe thi swill break the habit: you arent even healed yet. do you want to rupture something? cause yourself an ulcer? bowel obstruction? the dr has you start over with eating because its protects your innerds while you heal; liquids, puree, softmoist then real food. be careful. dont feel ashamed just try to think thru it and work thru it. it takes work. emotionally, mentally, physically etc. COME ON! you can do this. get rid of whatever it is and commit to your new life.

Thank you both.
Kenyar, you are right. I do need to start thinking about it. I am going to be getting that stuff out of the house. What I mean by junk food is chips and dip, chicken and dumplings stuff that I need to stay away from. I have not felt hungry at all. I just want to eat. I need to get my inner control built up. I am going to do as you said. I'm going to commit to my new life. I can not and will not continue on like this.

If you have a tough time reordering your relationship with food, especially impulsive eating, you may need professional assistance to make it over this hurdle. One thing is for sure - if you can't kick this right now, it would have been far better never to have had the operation. I'm not sure that you have fully grasped the seriousness of what this behavior could mean for you, both in the short and long term.

Do whatever it takes to get comfortable doing the right things and following the rules you will have to live for the rest of your life. Right here, right now is the easiest place and time you will ever have to win this battle.

We're on the sidelines rooting for you, but you are the only one in the ring when the lions are unleashed. We want you to win!

Good luck!

I agree with Perfesser that what you are doing has to do with the emotional aspects of your relationship with food. One of the reasons most of us have resorted to having this significant surgery is the fact that we weren't able to alter that relationship we had with food without serious help. This tool is a gift, and it will serve us well if we pay attention to it and honor it. It is, however, only a tool, and it is up to us to work out whatever demons we may have related to food and weight.

I also agree that getting professional help with the self-sabotage and the addiction may be a very good thing to consider. I can't tell you how many times I told myself the same thing you said in your post: "I tell myself each day that I need to stop, but I don't know what my problem is." Doing what we are doing to change our lives requires a significant commitment and a fair amount of discomfort as we shed our old ways of thinking about and doing things and move towards a healthier physical and emotional perspective.

You can do this, and we are here to cheer you on and support you. What we can't do is to do this for you. That part is totally up to you.

Many Blessings,

Maggie

Good for you for having the courage to post! That's a hard first step because you're opening yourself up for criticism and yet you were willing to take that chance. I think every one of us has a food adiction, we eat not because we are hungry but to fill a void. That's whay we all say that the emotional side of this journey is so hard, we all have to come to grips with why we eat what we shouldn't. There's no shame in seeking professional help to figure out why you are doing what you are, please look into it. We're here cheering for you.

((((HUGS))))
A few things you can do.
KEEP a water bottle by you. When you get the munchies, drink first.
Do NOT keep food that invite you to have munchies in the house.
MAKE a shopping list before going out grocery shopping. Never get anything that is not on the list. Even if you go by the isle and remember that you are low on something. Put that thing on the next grocery list and get only what you have on today's list.
And if you think you have food dependency issues, yes, it probably is a wise idea to pull the pros into the game.
You can do this, keep faith in yourself.
