Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Interesting post. The only thing that I see right off that contradicts what my surgeon and dietition have instructed me to do is the time taken to eat a meal. This states you must consume meals in 5-15 minutes, but my dietition was very clear that she wants me to take atleast 20-30 minute to eat very slowly, but not longer than 30 min. I understand that this may be because I am less than 3 months out and I am supposed to be learning to chew my food very well. I'll have to ask about this at my next appointment.

Thanks, very interesting read!

Thank you so much for posting this!

I had Roux-en-Y in January of 2006. I lost 180 lbs, which was a lot, due to the fact that I am 5'1" tall.

About a year ago, I began putting weight on, and am now 30 lbs heavier than I want to be.

I have been counting calories, which is not as bad as it was when I was 275, but still bad.

In desperation, I began looking on the internet to find out what I can do.

I came across this forum and I have to say that I wish I had known five years ago WHY some of the rules were there. I started drinking water with my meals about 2 years ago. I didn't understand the reasons for it, nor realize it was a big part of my problem until I read the "whys" of the rules.

I also did the soft calories eating and went back to carbs.

Thank you so much for putting this all up there. I get it now and will be trying to get back to where I was after surgery.

The original post went up 4 years ago, so, some of the details porbably have changed with most surgeons over the time, especially as more data piles up on what works best for long term success.
The very basic rule of no drinking while eating, stop before and after meals for at least 30 mins, stays the same. The time you need to take to eat is, these days, 20-30 mins as far as I know. Eating too fast can cause your pouch a lot of discomfort, so chewing throroughly will take some time.
Contrygirl, I think you will do very well on your surgeon/nut's program.

I just read this article for the first time-very informative. I had never read about the water loading concept before a meal....I always have aimed for constant fluids until 30 minutes before a meal, but i do sometimes find myself so thirsty after a meal.

One question this article leaves me with is on the topic of protein shakes. He basically does not recommend them because its a liquid source, not a 'heavy' food, ie, protein, that is going to stay in your pouch for a long time. I do feel hungry sooner after a shake meal, so it makes sense. It makes me re-evaluate my mindset that a protein shake is a perfectly fine meal replacement option. Any thoughts?
