Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi Everyone, I had my Lap RNY on 11/20/06. I was doing perfect until 12/5/06 when my surgeon and dietician gave me the okay to start soft proteins. The past two weeks especially have been miserable as I have horrible nausea and vomiting. I called my surgeons office this past week and had to go in for an UPper GI. The results came back showing some reflex (I see my surgeon Tuesday morning). As an example this morning I've been feeling perfect, had SF Carnation Instant Breakfast for my breakfast and decided to have a hard boiled egg for lunch, was able to eat half of it, and now I am sitting here feeling absolutely miserable and wishing I'd stuck with another Instant breakfast for lunch also.. HAs anyone else gone through this? Thanks!

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board Jenny, thank you for joining us. Awww, ((((((HUGS))))))) I am very sorry to hear that you are having a hard time. However, I have noticed that many members here has posted very early out about having trouble with eating, especially protein, it seems (even when it is the nutrient most important for you to get in.) Let's see what your surgeon says about the result of your UGI, I hope the reflux is not an indicator of anything serious. May your surgeon be able to give you an understandable answer, and may your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | (((HUG)))) jenny!!! PERHAPS you need to eat a little bit softer consistency food longer... its not an easy journey and i never understand what makes me sooo weird with the foods i eat. I think you would do better with a eggsalad verse an egg...... its trial an error with foods and you will find something that doesnt sit well today will later down the road. DO you take tums? i know for me i was on tums the first 6 months after my surgery...perhaps that will help if this is a reflux matter. HANG in their and work with the foods that work best for you. I hate to admit soft foods always do better for me then not soft. CHICKEN in a chicken salad does better then chicken on the bone. STEAK meat done tender in a pressure cooker does better then a grilled steak for me. I know for me also some troubles tend to be im not a slo good chewer so for me sticking with the softer foods helps. TRIAL and error. HUGS! it gets better!!! and the results from your tests will tell you alot too. I know for me i m on over the counter anti acid meds since the summer. SO perhaps you will have to go on a product like that. I look forward to getting to know you thru your posts and im sooo glad you found this wonderful support site.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WELCOME!!! Hopefully all will come out fine for your UpperGI....and you will work it all out with soft foods for a while.... Have you tried Scrambled eggs....maybe adding some cheese! this is a great source of protein...don't overcook the eggs though....softer scramble goes down better. Oooooh, do I remember this time! I am 8mos. post op now....but, it was a different jump off in the first 4-6 weeks....then I began my traveling...and had to "make due"! I did a lot of premade protein shakes by EAS....Carb control Advant Edge. with about 18gms of protein....and then deli meats....cut very very thin...and string cheese. LOTS of scrabled eggs until one day my tummy said NO...and now, I can't eat them! But that is about the only thing...other than my pouch is saying no to shrimp lately....I'm TICKED about this...b/c I LOVE IT! You'll get thru it....take it slow....eat softer foods like Lisa suggested....that is the key....eat slow....chew chew chew....and you will be FINE!!! Good luck and let us know about your UpperGI!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | ....that just made me remember something! About smell: In my 4th month I was loving BLT's....and then one day got sick on a BLT...and ever since then, I get a bit nauseated when I smell bacon! The little bodega across the street from our house always makes 'things on the grill' but during breakfast and lunch in particular I can not go near there....i just want to !! LOL.Had a bit of a problem with this at my MIL's too....one night she made greasy burgers for everyone....I was okay at first...but then after she was on the 4th or 5th burger (she makes them in a skillet...so it sits in all the grease - GROSS!!)....i just started feeling awful! I tried to be cordial...and ate a few bites of my burger (w/o bun)...but couldn't eat even 3 bites...and had to pass the rest to my BIL! Thankfully my in-laws are sooo thrilled with my weight loss that my MIL said nothing...even though her face looked a bit peeved! LOL. To make matters worse...then the "clan" began their smoking binge in the garage and there was no where to escape the greasy smoke smells except out on the front porch in the 28* weather! LOL.... Anyway... Smells can be tricky...

| Super Moderator | Hmmm......this has had me thinking...now, mind you, I don't think there's any medical data around to substantiate my thoughts, but, here it is. Y'all sound like you're having a bout of morning sickness, no less. Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds way off, but the fact is, while you are losing weight at the speed you are, your fatty tissues are releasing female hormones by the buckets--now this part, at least, is substantiated by medical data. So, if your hormones are going wacky, no reason why they aren't the culprits for your sensitivity to smell. Once everything settles down, I imagine things will be back to normal. Now, on the other hand, I don't think a little higher sensitivity to scents isn't such a bad thing. Heightend sense of smell helps you be more aware of food in general, in the way that it helps you feast first with sight and scent which will satisfy your brains faster, which in turn prevents you from overeating. Hope I'm making sense here.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi Everyone, sorry I haven't been around. I'm doing 'much' better as of the first week of February. I'm averaging about once/twice a week of vomiting so nowhere near what it was. STill having difficulty with my foods. I purchased this great little 3 oz glass that has measurements on it, I actually bought two, one for the house and one for my workbag in case I am in a situation where I need to measure. (me and measurements don't go good together lol). I found a month ago that I could eat a 1/2 of a Taco Bell supreme Taco when we are out running errands. Infact we had taco salad for supper last night and I was able to eat and feel good..I think that is the key "feeling good" after I eat. Thank you for all the advice!
