Default Vegetables

Hi All,
Not sure if this is the proper place to post this but will try. I'm at the stage where I can have pureed vegetables. Any suggestions? I'm thinkng of getting some babyfood carrotts. I was wondering if butternut squash is okay. Is there a lot of sugar in the squash? Any help would be appreciated. Also have moved on to pureed chicken, turkey, ham & tuna. Any ideas for that stuff? Thanks in advance.... you folks that have been here before have been a huge help to me.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Wink I think that's a great idea....

I was thinking butternut squash...
Here's how I cook it....

Once it is cut up in cubes....
boil until tender...
strain off some of the water - but not all.
mash~

I've just discovered this...and LOVE it...I don't add anything but a little salt...and it's perfect!!!
Hope you enjoy.

Hmmm, squash is a veggie, but it's main ingredient, besids water, is carb.
The listing here.
A lot of people use babyfood during the pureeds, but yes, as bren says, learn to read the labels first, then calculate and make your choices.

Default Mornin Lindulou!

I can't stress enough to read the labels on the cans of things you buy. When the wife and I go shopping, it takes us a double amount of time in the store because we read all the labels on everything. Before the surgery, it was OH! I LOVE THAT PUT IT IN THE CART. LOL Now, I bypass alot of what I used to ingest. My spaghetti ohs are nothing but a memory for me. I will never eat them again. The carbohydrates alone in them must be building condos in the can. lol lol lol I AM NOT, BY FAR, A FOOD NAZI, BUT A BETTER SHOPPER NOWADAYS. Am not sure about the squash thing though. I have never been a squash eater. lol SORRY. Give me anything made with tomatoes, and watch out. I will show you how to eat it. lol

HEY MIKE i have used the multi grain pastas, tried many before i found one that was good...and now turned the whole family on to that pasta.
I only have a tiny bit i mostly eat the meat sauce with some mozzerella
but put a string or two of pasta in for enjoyment. I was always told if your gonna do the pasta, breads or rice...use the whole grain varities!
SO now and then i do!
I know you mentioned your doctor wants you tout in more carbs to slo up your weight loss. I actaully didnt eat any of that stuff will after 12 months.

Default Thanks Lisa!

You know, that is my biggest thing to deal with. I lived on pasta before my surgery. I haven't HONESTLY, had spaghetti since my surgery. I thought of the carbs in it, and wouldn't do it. We have made it, but I just ate the sauce. I know my doctor said I have to add carbs. to my diet, but I am having a real hard time doing that. Don't get me wrong here, it's not like I am becoming obsessed, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I am so scared of weight gain. So, in a nutshell, I have not listened to the dr. and just eat the way I have been. Eating until I feel full with no extra carbs. I KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO DO, BUT TO DO IT IS A DIFFERENT STORY. It's almost like I want to post something to get a little support. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Thanks Everyone for the info. I was considering buying the frozen already made squash, but I'm thinking now the fresh will be better.

Default Great Linda

I love the Spaghetti Squash too...that's how I do spaghetti...did know about the "carb thing..." ~ thought I was "being good"....but I suppose it's a better choice than potato pasta or rice!!!! (I'm in love with them all!!! Still haven't done pasta post op....have done potatos since I was on pureed....and have tried a bit of rice here and there after about 6mo.)

Rice still doesn't always sit well with me.....boy...I sometimes get sick outta my head !!!! I love rice. The thing that is bad for me is sometimes it's ok...sometimes not. (btw...I always use brown rice! ~ love it!!)

Good luck on your adventure Linda....when I was on pureed's I did the noodless lasanga a lot....mashed potatoes....mashed broccoli....mashed sweet potatoes....guacamole and something like refried beans...but they were organic. (I'll fess up.....I did to pintos and chz from taco bell a couple times too!)

Hang in there...you'll be eating normal b/4 you know it!!!
