| Peanut Butter?
Is peanut butter ok two weeks out? I tasted some low fat Jiffy today and it was heavenly!! I want to have more! It is weird how you react to something so compact with nutrition when you haven't had it in a long time. I know it can be high in fat and all that, but what about just 1 tbsp here and there with lunch? Do you think that would be ok? It is not on my list, but not everything is on there. Tofu isn't on there either, but the nutritionist did tell me tofu is ok. I am so tired of all these synthetic things. I miss fresh things! I know I just had my surgery two weeks ago, but have been on liquids for about 6 weeks off and on, and 4 weeks of that has been straight.
I am very much a fresh, veggetarian food loving, with occasional meat added in kind of person. I have gotten really lazy in the last several years with what I ate and how I ate it. But I have never gone this long without fresh veggies or fruits and no tofu! I L-O-V-E tofu and veggies. I just hope that the next two weeks I can cope ok. It is starting to get really hard.
So anyway...Sorry for whining. Maybe I should call the nutritionist tomorrow. Hmmm....

It's pretty high in fat, so it might be better to avoid it until later.

I couldn't eat peanut butter until about 2 years out, even a tiny amount made me dump.

I love peanut butter and was told I can have some if my pouch likes it. I have had it a couple of times with no ill effect. I know how you feel about wanting something fresh.... I have been hooked on sucking on oranges...just the juice and not really eating it. I have had one every other day for a week, now I'm out and will not buy more for awhile. Ask you nut....

ok..hold on..you DO know that your focus post op is supposed to be protein? right?
Veggies and all that are great..but that focus FOREVER has to be protein.
I can tell you from my own experience of living in a foreign country where we couldn't afford meat, only had tofu, vegetables and maybe once a week chicken if we were lucky...vegetarian post op does NOT keep you healthy at all. When I returned to the States I was VERY unhealthy and that was only after 6 weeks of eating that way.
It took a good 3-4 months before I looked healthy again.
That's just a concern I wanted to voice.
Peanut butter can be really good but has a lot of sugars in it unless it's the all natural, which even then can get you with being sweetened with HONEY or Malt Syrups. There are other butters out there, cashew, almond you could try too as those tend to not have sugars added to them.
But a serving of PB really is only a small amount..1 tsp compared to the labels 1tbsp which is THREE tsp.

I am not a big fan of Peanut butter. I actually enjoy it in my baking that I do and then not very much of it. I have eaten a few times with a spoon but it sits so heavy on my pouch and I do not like that feeling. A medium jar of peanut butter lasts me about 8 months. I went threw much more peanut butter when all my kids were at home but they are all gone now so it lasts a long long time now.

I can do PB now and I even put a dab in "3 carb conroled" vanilla yogert with a smidge of SF grape jelly the other day. It was kind of like a PB&J with milk. If i eat too much pb I do get nausous and when I tried it early out it felt like I swallowed a rock. My nutrionalsts recomeneds mixing it in with sf apple sauce.
Good luck with what ever you do.

Don't worry, I totally understand that protein is the focus, but that veggies are in there too. Right now I am not allowed anything at all that is fresh! Nothing! I haven't had anything fresh for a month. That is a really long time to not have one single veggie or fruit. You can't live on only meat either. I am actually not allowed anything that is meat, I found out today!
I talked to the nutritionist and she doesn't care if I have strayed from what is written and done well with it. She is not going to allow me to continue to stray from what is written in my binder, no matter how good I am doing or if I have tried other things. I have to stick to what is in the binder no matter what. So no meat, no fruit unless it is no sugar added applesauce and only a tbsp at that. No veggies unless it is baby food kind. No dairy unless it is plain yogurt or Lactaid milk. So only mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, apple sauce (in very small amounts), baby food, soup (strained, liquid only), and protein drinks. Unsweetened soy milk is allowed. Those are my options for the next two weeks. So really the only way for me to get any protein at all is through shakes and yogurt.
Yes, I know it is a very small portion of my life. This has to be a lot harder than I thought it would be though. For some reason I thought I had more choices than this or that it would go by faster than this. But it is really going slowly and my body is just craving things. My muscles get spasms and cramps like I used to when I would stop eating for weeks when I was a teenager. I know that taking a multivitamin can't be giving me everything I need. I crave fresh meat, steamed veggies, and I know it will be another month before I can have them again. So it is really hard for me.
Oh well, I will just keep going with it. Hopefully things will go faster! I am happy for the weight loss, but this having so many things that are processed is really hard for me to stomach.

It's slow going when you are right in the middle of it.
It will have flown by when the time comes for you to look back.
Hang in there (((HUGS)))
Also, you'll understand this better later, but be glad that your nut is strict with you. You need to dicipline yourself, your brain and your pouch now, while everything is new, because if you allow yourself some slack already, it's going to be much harder to stay on track further out, when your food choices expand, and your pouch starts to become agreeable with everything. Get your brain and pouch aligned where it should be, for successful maintenance, because this surgery isn't over when you reach goal, it's the maintenance that is the true job for the pouch.
