| Eating too fast?
Hello, I'm new to this forum, actually today is my first day. I will upload picks and get info going soon. As for the title...I have had problems for the past month (2 months post-op) with vomiting. I saw a thread for those who are having trouble vomiting and I am actually in the opposite boat. I vomit at least once a day. I have had follow ups with my surgeon who has tried me on medications to help but nothing seems to work. He had put me back on a liquid diet for 3 weeks. I just tried some grilled chicken last night and ate 2 oz very slowly, I'm talking almost 2 hours. And it stayed down. So then I start thinking, am I just eating too fast? But I didn't think it would have to take me that long to eat. I can't imagine doing that with every meal. I'm going to stick with the liquids and try more soft foods for dinner but was wandering if anyone else had this problem. When I it is almost immediately after or while I'm eating. It is quick and seems as though the food has not even hit my stomach since it has not been digested.
On another note, I'm never "hungery" but I crave foods all the time. Not sweets but flavor, man do I want flavor! Any tips. I'm still on a liquid/experimenting diet with soft foods.
Thanks!!
Sonshine

Flavor as in refried beans with salsa or cottage cheese with horseradish (ya, I know, but it's far better than it sounds!)? Flavor as in a nice chili you cooked for 9 hours in the crockpot so the meat is fall-apart-on-your-fork tender?
You might want to wander over to the Recipes sub-forum and take a peek at the great things posted there for folks in all phases. See something you like but it's too advanced for right now? That's why Mr. Waring and Mr. Oster build such good blenders!! You spin some slow-cooked BBQ chicken a few times in one of them (take the bones out first! ) and you've got all the flavor in a soft food or puree (depending on how long you held the button!)

Many of us find chicken to be difficult at first, and the moister you can make it, the better. Are you going through a pureed stage, where you have to blenderize everything you eat? I would suggest you try that. One of my first meals was BBQ pulled pork that I had cooked all day in the crock pot then pureed it in the blender. Spicy foods are OK, just so long as their lean and low carb.
Hey CT - what's wrong with refrieds and salsa? Sounds yummy to me.

I must be in a wierd mood, cause the cottage cheese with horseradish sounds good to me!! Good luck with the food choices. I really enjoyed mashed potatoes mixed with cottage cheese.

I never said that there was anything wrong with it!! If you'll read it again, you'll see that I was using it as example of a flavorful combination!!! I like refritos and salsa!!

IT could be. I want you to think about what your eating . Is the meat really moist?? Its almost gotta be. Grilled chicken is usually very dry or I think it is. Marinades really help. Even cheap beef is if marinaded.
You dont wanna fill up to the point of feeling full. That is a good way of vomiting.
DO you ever get a signal like burping or the hiccups while your eating? That is how alot of us know when its time to stop. Funny but alot experience it.
If your getting in fluids and not vomiting and the vomiting is a couple hours after a meal it might be what they call dumping also.

Did your follow ups with your surgeon include an endoscopy? If not, then you should insist on one, to rule out strictures or ulcers.
If you have had one done and there was nothing wrong with your pouch, then it may either be the texture of the food, or it may be functional--a temporarily lazy pouch, which can be helped with medication, but sometimes it takes time.
As for flavor--I know some people found tabasco the saving grace at such times.

CT | After the Army I can't stand the flavor of Tabasco anymore, but try Cho-lu-la brand hot sauce, its got more flavor and less vinegar than Tabasco in my opinion

Is that the one with the wooden knob for a bottle cap? Yeah, that's good stuff too. Lately I've been drifting more to the Chipotle Tabasco or Louisiana Hot Sauce, which seems to have more flavor in a less harsh sauce than the traditional Tabasco.
Hey, they're ALL good!!
