Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Great article. The thing that worries me is the artificial sugar. I don't have a problem with real sugar but I think I use too much Splenda. I wonder if this is causing cravings for sugar. I think it would be very hard to give them up but if it would help I think maybe I should work on giving them up. It is amazing how much of this stuff is in what we eat to replace the sugar in foods. Doc what is your take on this?? Is Stevia any better?

I read through this article last night and by the end I was impressed at the depth of it. I have cut back on artificial sugar (sugromax) that I put in my mocha/coffees but I rarely add splenda to anything, only once when I made the banana protein pikelets/omelettes things, I used a tablespoon in those, but I dont bake or add it to anything else. I read that too mucha of the A.sugars can increase cravings and hunger, so cut back a bit, but I am also taking a chromium health supplement specially for sugar cravings and I have found that it works quite well to keep my levels steady, I would find that i would get shaky if i didnt eat at certain intervals, but now its not so bad. Give it a try if you get the up and down spikes.
Great article, and well worth the read.
Thanks for that Doc!

Good article. He confirms much of what I learned from Dr. Atkins when I followed his program. Atkins didn't have the studies to back what he said, though, so the medical establishment tried to run him out of town on a rail! But other than now since my surgery, I never felt better than I did on Atkins.

Sweet tooth can be tricky. You may have to retrain your taste buds to recognaise the subtle flavors that the foods themselves have.
Not, something tastes bland/blah so I need to add sugar/fat/salt=thick sauces, gravy etc for it to become edible. What you are doing with sauce and gravy is to cover up the tastes instead of enhancing them.
What I often tell my diabetic patients is, it's better to use natrual sugar in very small amounts, than to use artificial sweetners to sweeten things up to your liking. You need to train your "tongue" and get used to less sweetness. (We very often use the exptression "tongue" to represent the ability of a person to discern taste, which is apt, because the majority of out taste buds are on our tongues.)

About taste buds.
Here's an anecdote I have from CraigT from his own experience.
He was in Japan once on a business trip, when his Japanes business partners invited him to a very famous Tempura restaurant in Tokyo. Whlie the Japanese businessmen were treating him to the best Tempura one can eat in Tokyo, they disucsssed the subtle tastes of the various materials--fish, shrimps, veggies, saying this or that still lacked the deepness in taste so, the peak season wasn't here yet, yada yada yada. Craig couldn't follow the conversation. And, some years earlier, he had spent several years in Japan, albeit on base for most of the duration, so he hadn't been exposed to the sublety of Japanese cuisine. It took him severall business trips to Japan, before he started being able to picki out some of the subtleties that these businessmen had discussed.
Try cooking from scratch with the minimum amount of spices, sugars, salts etc. Learn to use small amounts of several types of spice in combination so they enhance each other. That will help you learn to discernn subtle tastes.

Incidentally, here's an article that I think goes hand in hand with the first article.
A Food Manifesto for the Future
