| Not Doing Well
I'm SO confused!
I'm supposed to be eating 6 small meals a day and taking 30 minutes to eat each meal. That's three hours of my day.
Then, I'm not supposed to drink for an hour before and after I eat. That's another six hours.
Then, I'm supposed to drink 8 glasses of water.
When am I supposed to do all this?
I'm supposed to be spending the whole day eating and drinking?
I'm nauseated.
I'm depressed.
And I'm not getting any support from my surgeon's office.
HELP!

whoa..... that seems a bit excessive..... The normal rate for fluids and meals is no fluids 30min, none whilst eating (30mins approx) and none a min 30mins after....1 1/2hrs all up per meal. Sip as much as you can but dont forget, you are only a month out, so eventually, you will be able to do this no worries. Each surgeon and nut has their own rules, so I certainly wont advise you to go against them, but if you are really struggling, and obviously you are, maybe you should talk to the nut? Maybe someone here can help you a bit more...but like I said, the general rule is 30/30/30.
And if I havent welcomed you yet, Welcome to RR!!
Best wishes and hope you get sorted soon, as you do not want to get dehydrated (next to water, the next important thing is your protein and high protein diets req more water).

OK, but even with the 30/30/30 rule, eating six meals a day, that's 9 hours of your day spent eating/not drinking. Then, you have to drink all this liquid.
What else do you get accomplished in a day? I just don't get it.

Well, this is what my surgeons office (inc nut) tell us: 3 meals a day ONLY. If you must have a snack at some point, make it high protein, protin drinks are not a snack, they are a meal.
So for me, the hardest thing about getting the water in at 1 mth post op, was more to do with the fact that I hate water by itself. yuck. But then I didnt have to try and stuff myself with 6meals a day either, which also, to me, sounds far too excessive, but compare that to the info I was told, so yeah, i do think it is. If I were you, I would talk to the nut and see if I could cut it down to maybe 4 meals a day and IF there is time left over, a small protein something at night? ....*sigh* Maybe Doc can do better?? Doc will hopefully pop in sometime soon-ish and give you some clearer idea. |

I hate water, too. What did you do? just make yourself drink it until you liked it?

I put lemon juice or lime juice in it, not the fake cordial type, fresh if you can, but I also buy it in little bottles (I think its near the sauces area in the supermarkets) and add a squirt or 2 to about 1l of water. It gives it a nice, mild taste without the sickly sweet of cordial syrups, and it has the added benefit of helpng flush out toxins from the liver (Ive read that), but it is healthier than sugary stuff, or even the s/f stuff as juice doesnt have artificial stuff in it.
Some other ideas are: cucumber slices, or orange slices ditto with lemons and limes in a jug of nice cool water. Just a nice, fresh taste. |

I also hate plain water, and lemons saved me! Decaf coffee and tea are also good in my world, and my doctor recommended SF popsicles, which count as liquid and to which I am now addicted.
Do the best you can, journal what you do, and talk to your doctor about what you have been able to do and what you have not.
Oh! And welcome.
