Default Sweetners

Ok, I'm sure this will be a much debated topic here but I have a simple question and realize that it may not have a simple answer. What kind of sweetner do you use and prefer? I use splenda if I'm having hot tea or decaf coffee but it just doesn't mix well in ice tea or other cold drinks. Is there a sweetner besides sweet-n-low that mixes well in cold drinks and tastes good. Truvia, Stevia, ???. The reason I ask is that the DWTB is concerned about aspertame and other sweetners and some of the reported (whether proven or not I don't know) health problems they might cause. Thanks for the Help!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I use Splenda in moderation.
Ice tea I am doing w/o any sweetner now...but sometimes I know, you just need a little something.
I also question aspertame.

I use truvia in everything. I did use sweet-n-low way before my surgery but had some memory side effects the Dr. thought could be from it. I have been using truvia for almost a year. Mixes well with everything coffee, tea, cereals, oatmeal ect. May not work for you but does for me and is suppossed to be natural?

I love Splenda. What I do is take a small amount of water and boil it and add Splenda and mix with my (whatever I am making) - and it bakes just fine too. However, as for iced tea, I use Crystal Light ice tea.

I actually try my hardest to not use any artifical sweetners because I have MS - and have suffered with it for 18 years. Aspertame is the absolute WORST one to use, according to my neurologist. It can cause MS-like symptoms and fake lesions in your brain that mimic MS lesions. When I was being diagnosed (at age 23) that was the first question they asked me - how many diet sodas do I drink and what atifical sweetners do I use? I stopped using them at that time because I wanted to be sure the symptoms I was experiencing were actually those related to MS and not from the artifical sweetners. What sweetner do I use? Usually a little bit of honey in my tea. Nothing otherwise.

I use Splenda too. The other ones make me feel like I took "speed" or something! (Not that I know what speed feels like, it makes me alittle crazy!)

I use Stevia - Splenda makes me very bloated and gassy, but not the kind of gas that comes out...just the kind that makes you bloated and stays there for HOURS and HOURS!! Miserable. I didn't have problems with Splenda before the surgery.

I only use Stevia for hot decaf tea...which I drink almost all day long (that's what happens when you marry an Englishman! )

I have had no problems with Stevia. I also like Truvia, but Stevia mixes better.

I've been using Splenda since it came out. It's been my go-to sweetner when I got diagnosed as diabetic. Now that I'm not diabetic anymore, I still use it.

Aspartame can cause headache in fractional percentage of the population, and if you don't have any adverse effect from it, you can use it if you like the taste. Other than that effect, it's as safe as any other artificially sweetener.

Sweet'n Low (saccharin) can cause bladder cancer in lab rat, but only at 20 years supply in short period of time. It was put on the list of carcinogen in 1989. It was delisted when further test on primate that more closely match our metabolism failed to replicate the result.

I use Truvia for Iced Tea and also for my Greek Yogurt. I don't care for it in warm drinks though, leaves a funny taste behind.
