Question Easy Food Choices

Well yesterday I went out to lunch with a girlfriend and it was completely easy for me to get a salad with unsweetened tea on the side.
Now the problem is when I'm at home. When I make dinner its easy for me to say oh well its cheaper to make one meal for everyone instead of making two seperate meals (one for me & the other for the family) How do I make it stick? It's become a real pyschological warefare between my head/mind and old habits. Now I actually understand the saying "Old habits die hard!" Being in the house is like a comfort zone, my worst fear is not being able to stick to it. Now I haven't gotten a surgery date yet but Im trying to diet and make the right choices so that when the time comes it's second nature I'm past this yoyo effect of body & mind.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I only make one meal and everyone eats it. (Are we short order cooks?)
Stick with a protein, veg and carb...i.e. chicken, green beans, and potatoes.... they can all eat it... add a salad, and if necessary-provide them with a dessert...(but it could be SF jello with a pop of whipped cream.) I usually bake the protein and steam the veg together...less pots and pans etc.
Tell them they all are eating healthier...is that doable for you?
Once in a while provide something they like.... but it shouldn't be at the point it is
breaking your effort. Try not to serve any "danger" foods for you. You just aren't making that any more... if you can't handle it. Time to take care of you now.

There are a whole lot of recipes in the Recipes sub-forum that they'll love to eat. Just don't tell them that it's good for them!! And every one of them is appropriate for us, too (that's why they're there!)

It's just me and my husband, so it's not complicated by a bunch of preferences.

This is the reason I usually take two pictures of dinner: one of my own and one of both dinners. I find it fascinating that he usually likes what I'm having, though sometimes with variations.

I make one dinner. He might have, say potatoes while I have cracker chips, but aside from that, it's the same. He just gets bigger servings. (Lately, not much bigger, but I don't think he could survive on the amounts I eat.)

Lunch is usually different for both of us. He likes Smart Ones lunches, not because he's calorie-conscious, but because he found out when I was enforcing them for meals that he genuinely like them.

I have 8 children and food modification has been quite the topic for the last months. I make protein, vegetables and usually have a starch for the family. I keep it simple. I do not keep sweets in the house because those are my down falls. I stalk up on fruits for the kids. On grocery days I will bring treats for the kids but nothing that lays around for a day or two.

I log everything I eat it helps so much to track how much of what I am eating. I pay special attention to the protein. If I am low one day I try to pay attention for the next. I keep fluids going all day long--

I agree with everyone else...I do the protein, veggie, and starch for the whole family and I just omit the starch from my little tiny plate. Often, I just do a protein and a veggie for all of us - they are eating a little bit healthier too since I've had the surgery...I don't want to set my kids up to have the same issues I've had so it's a benefit for all of us.

Another suggestion is to not even have the 'crud' available in the house....if it's not there, you can't consume it....

Really it's a never ending issue for most of us...we just have to learn strategies to cope....not easy, I know!

I agree one dinner or meal for everyone and that is it. Its not gonna be as hard as you think. Now right out the gate its gonna be a bit different because your not gonna be able to eat what they do because its not gonna be a meal but it will come. Healthier for everyone without them even knowing it.

My wife doesn't like to cook. As a result that's my thing. Once I got back on real food, I wasn't shy about cooking stuff that was good for me. If she wanted to join me in it, great. If she wanted something else, she could fix it herself. I never made a big deal about it, she just started eating the WLS way. Once she found out how sustainable it is (unlike a miserable diet!!) she was halfway to her decision to have her own RNY. Now that she's a couple of years out, she still eats what I make, she likes it, and she's dropped a hundred pounds.

Just don't tell them it's good for them. They'll eat it if it's on the table and they're hungry!
