Default Lactose intolerant folks out there...

Hi - I'm 6 weeks post-op and came out of surgery lactose intolerant with an additional allergy to soy products! Can anyone offer me any advice on what you eat and how to control it? Lactaid pills do absolutely nothing to help.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Did you have an allergy test to see if you are allergic to soy or just intolerant? What kind of reaction are you having? I thought I was allergic to whey or soy but after testing it showed I was'nt. In fact I am just now trying my first cup of diluted protein shake along with an acidophilus pill to see if it helps. If I continue to have problems I will see the GI doctor to figure out why before having surgery. I hope you get some good responses back from others because I am curious also.

Judy, I've not been tested but I dump on just protein powder mixed with ice and water. I've dumped repeated with that! As for lactose intolerance, it's the same. Gas rumbling in my abdomen and then diarrhea. Should I call my surgeon to test me for this, or just my family doc? What exactly does the acidophilus pill do? I'd really like to know so I may call then yet today.

Thanks for your response!

Lactobacillus acidophilus is naturally found in the body. It's a probiotic (or good bacteria) that helps aid in the digestion process. You can be tested for food allergies through a blood test. I was sent to my ENT but maybe a GI doc can do the same. I found out I didn't have allergies. Your Primary doctor should be able to direct you in the right direction. I think I've heard some people on RR talk about the acidopholus "Pearls". I wouldn't start taking anything without talking to your wl surgeon first. I have not had wls yet so I don't know about your dumping syndrome. That is why I am trying to get figure out now. Good luck and keep us posted.

I already take the "probiotic pearls" to help try to keep things normal. It's just the dumping when I eat too much sugar (not on purpose) or have milk products. I just feel that this is going to be another adventure!
