So Peanut and I were up in the Cities the other day and decided to eat at one of our favorite restaurants of all time - The Machine Shed. Some of you in the Midwest may know what I'm talking about. Good food, generous portions, realistic pricing.
She ordered a pork loin shish kabob, and I had burnt ends, which is chunks of the crusty outside carved from their beef and pork roasts. They start off by bringing out a bowl of cottage cheese and one of coleslaw to get things going. (
Gooood coleslaw, too!!) Also a small loaf of their fresh-baked bread and a couple of pieces of spice cake (which was pretty good, too, as I recall!)
I ordered my dish with baked beans and sweet potato fries, and Peanut got the garlic-mashed potatoes and mixed veggies.
You can see how much was left when we got full and quit!! Her kabob had four medallioins of pork on it - she ate one and a half and had a few carrots. (She'd also had a spoon of cottage cheese and one of coleslaw, and a small piece of bread! And two of my fries.) The picture is too bright to really tell, but the two bowls in front (cottage cheese on the right, slaw on the left) are pretty close to full still. She may have had three small bites of her mashed spuds. That's the BBQ sauce above her plate in a small bowl, so she could control the amount by dipping instead of having them pour it on.
My bowl of burnt ends has a few missing, and I had maybe a dozen fries. You can see the damage I did to the beans too (
not!!!!) That's a piece of bread on my side plate. I drank a bit of water before it all came, as you can tell from the glass on my side. And I had a bite of her pork. MMmmmmmm ...
They brought us a bunch of boxes and a big sack and we ate on this stuff for three days!! (Only thing we left was the spice cake. We used to
fight over that back in our growing days!!) When you break down the total cost (including tip) and divide it by the number of meals it gave us, it set us back about $5- a meal.
This, folks, is how you do that!! Welcome to your new life!!
