Something that Craig and Leslie said when they were visiting here in Japan set me thinking.
I had a couple of apples for them, and the next morning, they were raving about how great the flavor of the apples were (and tangerines as well.) The apples were just the ordinary, daily, from the shelf of the local grocery store type, nothing special (you can get apples that cost $10 a piece in high-end fruit stores here!) and I had always figured, apples were, well, All-American specials--as in Johnny Appleseed. What a surprise to hear American apples now have no flavor!!
Fruits, veggies, they all have seasons, and to be able to savor their flavor and taste is tantamount to savoring the the particular season itself. So, if they lose all taste and are bland, what do you turn to??????
What become of the seasons when crops are artifically and genetically manipulated? What becomes of us when such foodstuff accumilates within our bodies??????

Folks,
I'm tell you the simple apples Sanae had waiting for us had more actual apple flavor than I had tasted in years.
I have heard that the breeding of especially apples have been done to make them more consistantly preety for the shelf and disease resistant.
All I can say is they I even walked to the grocery story close to where we were staying to get a couple more. The only problem was that, being the slob that I am, these thing dripped all over me.

I love apples too, but i like to add some peanut butter ontop of mine. My new food kick is strawberries, eat them every day! Have a good one.

I have to be real careful with peanut butter, Lots of sugar in most regular brands, and I forget, and dump-a-rooni.. or fartous-maximus.

i too love apples. My mom and i used to argue when i was living at home because i wanted a certain type of apple and she said they had no flavor. I know feel the same way. the best season for me is summer. Fresh fruits and veggies, mmmmm....yummy. i do like apples and peanut butter, i use the kind that you have to stir up to get the oils off of the top, but i also like banana and peanut butter. Ok i haven't had lunch yet and know i'm getting hungry, ooohhhhh! guess what's for lunch?

Thanks for the warning! Oh dear ... I really don't want to learn this stuff the hard way! I'm going to keep my eyes & ears glued to this place while I'm getting all my stuff together before surgery!
