| I'm going nucking futs on soft foods....lol
Ok ok...I know I was excited about being moved to soft foods last week but I have 3 more weeks and I an tired of tuna and salmon. Can I eat ground turkey or beef or chicken? I'm following the rules....I'm just getting burned out on cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese and canned tuna and salmon.
Any suggestion on anything else I can try? Please

I ate chicken and turkey (not ground.) But I am sure ground would be ok. It has to be moist. Chicken (I guess turkey too) can be your friend or enemy. Try very small bites, or shred it w your fork and knife. Chicken tastes so good..yummy..then it can turn into a little devil and get stuck in your throat..(well it isn't your throat but it feels like it.) If you had RNY, it doesn't come up and it doesn't go down, it can just sit there and remind you that you ate too fast, too big a bite or didn't chew it enough. Then you have some pain... and want to throw up..but generally it is only foam that comes up (we call that the "foamies.") Digestive juices start working over time to get the bad dog down.... but it kind of piles up... eventually it will go down.
If this should happen to you, movement does help...walking, whatever you can muster.
Beef- the was the hardest to digest. I started out with ground beef but I think I was 4 or 5 months out til I did. It is just tougher for the new pipes to work on.
You can try canned chicken... but I am not used to that. I suggest to cook a piece of chicken or turkey in broth, gently. Then very small bites chewed very slowly, concentrate... try 1 oz to start... then 2 oz...
With all new foods it is an adventure. I think salad, pasta and rice (in that order) were the last new foods for me to add... 3 months for salad... (also citrus fruit),
I still don't eat much pasta.. it is not my friend and can easily pack the pounds on.
Good luck.

I took ground turkey and cooked it in chicken broth with onion and fresh garlic. I could eat it just like that or my favorite was to take a folded egg and put the turkey and onion in it as it cooked. I made a pound of the ground turkey and onion mixture and added it to a lot of food.
I also ate cream of potato soup alot. You have to get creative. I watched cooking shows and improvised with the soft foods that I could use. My doctor had a long list of soft foods. Egg salad was on the list too.

Chicken can be tricky for some folks so just try little bitty bites and let it set for a minute or two just in case. I wasn't allowed beef in any form for a long time it was now that I think about it the last thing I was allowed to add when I was able to eat solids.

Scrambled eggs topped with refried beans and cheese (and salsa if you like it). I know it may sound weird but I found that I rerally liked it and still do, and it has a good amount of protein.

I had surgery 2 days before you and I wasn't allowed anything other then modified liquids until today. I'm allowed to have Chicken, turkey, lean pork, canned crab, etc as long as I puree it. I can also have veggies now. Like green beans, cucumbers, carrots, zucchini and so on. But the have to be cooked and soft.
I'm looking forward to adding these to my diet cause I am about sick of cottage cheese, beans and mashed potato's.
I thought it was interesting how different our diets are set up for the same time frame.

It's really fascinating how different doctors/nutritionists require different diets. Mine was clear liquids two days post op then 21 days on "full liquids" (smoothies, yogurt, jello, popsicles, etc) then a normal, healthy diet of tiny portions. I thought I would make it the full 21 days but I didn't, I made it about 18. This morning I had almost half a whole wheat mini bagel and a small turkey sausage link. Last night, I had a tiny piece of grilled chicken chopped up in some leaf lettuce with dressing. I feel fine!

Ground turkey, chicken, beef & pork (very lean) should be ok. I would make a patty and cook it until just done. Sometimes I did have about a tblsp of fat free gravy with it..helped keep it moist and take VERY small bites. I believe I was told "pencil eraser size bites" and chew chew chew, for any meat. I have tried beef tenderloin and it has been ok as long as it is fresh cooked, leftover does not work with me at all.

I use Miracle Whip Light and just enough. To moisten the finely chopped egg.
