Dunno about the chef label, but from my Italian mother I got a "daring" gene and I'm not afraid to try anything. Peanut tells me that the quality of my efforts has improved markedly since I had WLS and started watching the Food Channel!

Watching how they put things together has helped me figure out what works with what to a much better extent than before.
Baking is chemistry. I don't bake. Cooking, though ... now that's
