Question Might Need some help.....(please)

I am new to the site and still rummaging through some really great post you have all put up. I am struggling with ideas to eat. I still have not found a "safe" food yet and that seems to be my biggest struggle. This forum has some awesome ideas for food though. I need some help getting protein in and I'm concidering trying protien bars. I need some types that won't upset the stomach. I am also curious about some people were talking about FAGE. What is this and where can I find it?

I went and bought greek yogurt yesterday, (hopefully this one wont taste like sour milk). My first impression was not the greatest for greek yogurt but I will give it another try.

My last question is... (and this might not be the forum for it) but would I be able to take gummy vitamins instead of my chewable multivitamin. It doesn't taste bad but, I just don't have the drive to take any vitamins. The thought is making me sick already and I haven't even taken any yet today.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi Sam. I don't know what to tell you about the gummy vitamins or the Fage yogurt, but the yogurt I use is called Carb Master and I find it at Fred Meyers. It doesn't have as much protein as the Greek but it has a LOT less sugars. (less than 6 grams)
Another great thing to get in some protein is Dry Roasted Edamame. It is crunchy and has 14 grams of protein in a 1/4 cup. It comes in different flavors and can usually be found at Fred Meyers and Trader Joes.
As for the protein bars you need to be careful and read the labels. They can have as many calories as a candy bar and contain a lot of sugars. My surgeon wants his patients to stay away from them but I know there are many on this forum who eat them so maybe someone can share some good ones with you. The Perfesser makes homemade ones and the recipes can be found in the recipe section. I hope this was helpful and wish you the best in your weight loss journey.

Judi is talking about these. They're easy to make, you control what goes in them, and they taste way better than the sawdust and chalk bars you pay so much for at the store.

For other proteins, there are loads of slow cooker recipes in our Recipes section. The meats come out moist and tender - just right for a picky pouch!

Here are some ideas for using Greek yogurt. Got some unusual and interesting suggestions in this thread.

Keep doing your research and it'll get easier for you to meet your body's needs.

BTW - ya' just gotta get in your vitamins!! DO NOT short your body on these, no matter what it takes to get them in! Some folks here have almost killed themselves (literally!) by not taking them as they should!! Don't go there!!

I can find FAGE yogurt at any grocery store...usually if there is Chalbani, there is FAGE next to it. I eat chewable Flintstones but I do know of several people who eat
gummy vitamins and have no issue with them.
You can also get liquid vitamins-start out at a health food store. I haven't looked
at drugstores/WalMarts etc... they could be there; they seem to cost more though.
Certainly you could get them on line, but samples have been free at health food stores so you can see if you can tolerate them.
Good luck.

A lot of people seem to have problems with milk products, eggs, artifical sweetners, and meat that is too dry. Sometimes it might be fine to eat something in the evening, but when you try it for breakfast it will make you sick. It's a lot of trial and error that first 6 months or so.

Make sure your meats are very, very moist. Crock pot recipes are the best. I also found some deli sliced turkey or chicken breast that is moist and doesn't have added sugar (you have to read the labels on EVERYTHING).

I still have problems with eggs and peanut butter. LOL not together, just those two high protein foods just don't agree with the pouch. I still make myself eat the eggs, especially hard boiled since they are such an easy snack. You'll find that some foods you just have to keep trying and eventually the pouch will like it.

I tried a bunch of different protein bars and like CT said, they all tasted like cardboard and most of them made me sick. I tried different recipes of oatmeal, nuts, peanut butter and a bit of honey and added protein power and they were'nt too bad.

Refried beans were my best food, cottage cheese also goes down well.

I've seen debates about gummy vitamins. Some say we can't break down the jel part and so we don't get the vitamins. I don't know if this is true. I take 2 Flintstone Complete Chewables a day and I like them. Have you tried the Flintstones?

The vitamins I'm on right now are Centrum chewables. They really don't taste bad, I think for me right now it might just be all mental. I pretty much struggle with all "Pills" right now no matter what form they come in. The eggs are the same thing for me when it comes to mental. I just can't seem to choke things down if I'm already sick of them before I even start ot consume them. Oh this is a long journey, and some days it just seems longer then others. I am only 5 weeks out though, and I just reached 199 today. Which is a huge accomplishment in my book, and I am wearing size 18 jeans which I haven't seen in over 10 years. On to more protein and vitamins, that will be my focus from here on out hopefully. Thank you so much for the great suggestions.

I think I saw that same thing about gummi vitamins that NQB was talking about, dont' really work for us.
Fage is a greek yogurt, I use Truvia sweetener as it is supposed to be more natural. Greek yogurt is tangy (or sour) but the Truvia helps and I always put fresh fruit in mine. I eat it almost every day.
I found a new protein bar that is not full of "junk", I think it has 6 ingredients. They're called QuestBar and can only be ordered on line. They're about 2 bucks each and have alot of fiber also.
It's an adventure every day trying to find stuff to eat. You'll do fine!
